When to use: Seamless membranes built up in place from a liquid on concrete and masonry surfaces that enclose or protect occupied space: plaza and amenity decks, planters and landscaped areas, split-slab and topping-slab assemblies, between-slab and under-topping interior conditions, parking structure intermediate and roof levels with an exposed traffic-bearing membrane, and below-grade walls where a monolithic bonded membrane is selected instead of sheet. Covers hot fluid-applied rubberized asphalt and the cold liquid-applied chemistries (polyurethane, polymethyl methacrylate, polyurea, and polymer-modified asphalt emulsion), in both the buried configuration under a separate wearing course and the exposed configuration with an integral wearing surface, together with substrate preparation, primer, reinforcement, thickness control, protection course, drainage composite, root barrier, terminations, drains and penetrations, integrity testing, and warranty.
− Not intended for: Sheet, bentonite, and pre-applied blindside waterproofing ([[sync/below-grade-waterproofing]], [[sync/self-adhering-sheet-waterproofing]]); dampproofing without a waterproofing function ([[sync/dampproofing]]); liquid-applied roof coatings and membranes on low-slope roofs ([[sync/fluid-applied-roofing]], [[sync/membrane-roofing]]); the vegetated assembly above the root barrier ([[sync/vegetated-roofing]]); foundation and deck drainage design ([[sync/foundation-drainage]], [[sync/subdrainage]]); building expansion joint assemblies and field-molded sealants beyond the membrane detail ([[sync/expansion-joints]], [[sync/joint-sealants]]); waterstops and crystalline admixtures integral to the concrete ([[sync/concrete-joints-and-waterstops]], [[sync/cast-in-place-concrete]]); traffic deck coatings specified for wear or skid resistance alone; and water-containment structures such as tanks, reservoirs, fountains, and pools under continuous long-term immersion.

## A blocked drain turns a free-draining deck into a membrane under sustained head, and it is the most common cause of distress in an otherwise sound installation. {note}
