−description: >
− When to use: Factory-fabricated metal (steel) lockers for athletic and locker-room, employee and industrial, and school corridor applications, furnished as knocked-down (KD) standard-duty, heavy-duty, or fully welded assemblies. Covers steel sheet and component gauges, powder-coat finish over phosphatized steel, locker types and tiers (single, double, triple, box, Z-tier), ventilation (louvers, perforations, diamond), latching and locking (recessed handle, padlock hasp, built-in combination or key, electronic), trim and accessories (sloped tops, closed and Z bases, end and filler panels, number plates, benches), accessibility under the ADA Standards and ICC A117.1, and anchorage including seismic restraint.
− Not intended for: Plastic, solid-polymer (HDPE), or phenolic lockers (see [[sync/plastic-lockers]]); wood and high-pressure-laminate casework and cubbies (see [[sync/wood-and-laminate-casework]]); wire-mesh storage partitions and tool cribs; bulk shelving and pallet rack; mailbox and parcel-delivery lockers; refrigerated or electronically managed asset-management lockers as a packaged building system; toilet compartments (see [[sync/toilet-compartments]]).

−
−# Scope {toc}
−
−## This standard covers the furnishing and installation of factory-fabricated metal lockers and their trim, accessories, and anchorage. {note}
−## A metal locker is an assembly of formed steel sheet — a body (back, sides, top, and bottom), a door, and a door frame — joined either by mechanical fasteners (knocked-down, or KD, construction) or by welding, and finished with a baked powder-coat enamel. {note}
−## The scope includes the selection of construction grade to match the service duty, the steel gauges of each component, the ventilation type appropriate to the contents stored, the latching and locking method, the trim and accessories that finish a locker installation, the dimensional and operational requirements for accessible lockers, and the anchorage and seismic restraint of the installed run. {note}
−
−## This standard establishes the material, construction, finish, hardware, accessibility, and installation requirements for the lockers shown on the locker drawings. {note}
−
−## The single most consequential decision in this standard is matching the construction grade to the service duty. {note}
−## A standard-duty KD locker that performs adequately in a supervised employee coat room will be pried, dented, and racked out of service within a season in an unsupervised school corridor or a high-turnover athletic locker room. {note}
−## The narrative below ties each construction grade and gauge to the occupancy and abuse level in which it is the appropriate choice, so that the specifier selects the locker from the actual service environment rather than from first cost alone. {note}
−## Plastic, polymer, and phenolic lockers are an alternative to steel where moisture, corrosion, or hose-down cleaning rules steel out; those materials are addressed in [[sync/plastic-lockers]] and are noted here only as a selection branch. {note}
−
−## The locker layout — the number of lockers, the tier arrangement, the individual opening sizes, the bank lengths, and the location of accessible lockers — shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the locker plans and elevations]].
−## This work shall be coordinated with [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]] and [[sync/unit-masonry]] for in-wall blocking and wall-anchorage backing.
−## This work shall be coordinated with the flooring and base trades for the floor condition beneath closed and Z bases.
−## This work shall be coordinated with [[sync/toilet-compartments]] and [[sync/toilet-accessories]] where lockers adjoin a locker-room wet area.
−## This work shall be coordinated with the electrical trade where electronic locks require power or network connection.
−

−# Submittals {toc}
−
−## Action Submittals {toc}
−
−### Action submittals are reviewed and returned before fabrication. {note}
−### They establish the product, its dimensions, its finish performance, and — where required — its seismic anchorage. {note}
−
−### The following submittals shall be submitted for review and returned before fabrication begins.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Action Submittals Required
−type: checkbox
−options:
− - "Product data for locker type, construction grade, ventilation, and lock"

−
−## Closeout Submittals {toc}
−
−### Closeout submittals are delivered at substantial completion and hand the Owner the documentation needed to operate, maintain, and control access to the lockers. {note}
−
−### At substantial completion the Contractor shall provide the manufacturer's care and maintenance instructions, the manufacturer's written warranty, a master keying schedule or combination/programming record for the installed locks, and an inventory of attic-stock parts (number plates, locks, and touch-up paint) where specified.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Closeout Submittals Required
−type: checkbox
−options:
− - "Care and maintenance instructions"
− - "Manufacturer warranty documentation"
− - "Master keying schedule / combination / programming record (to Owner)"
− - "Attic-stock locks, number plates, and touch-up paint inventory"
−default: "Care and maintenance instructions"
−```
−### Lock control documentation shall be transmitted directly to the Owner's designated representative and shall not be left with the lockers.
−
−# Quality Assurance {toc}
−
−## Manufacturer Qualifications {toc}
−
−### The manufacturer shall be a firm regularly engaged in the fabrication of metal lockers of the type, construction grade, and lock specified, with a minimum of five years of production experience and products in service in comparable applications.
−
−### Lockers, trim, accessories, and locks within a single installation shall be the product of a single manufacturer to ensure dimensional fit and finish match.
−
−## Single-Source Responsibility {toc}
−
−### Trim, fillers, sloped tops, and bases are fabricated to the manufacturer's locker module and frame profile; mixing trim from one manufacturer with lockers from another produces misaligned joints and exposed gaps. {note}
−### Locks are machined to the manufacturer's door and frame preparation. {note}
−
−### The locker body, door, frame, trim, and lock shall be a matched system from one source.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Single-Source Responsibility
−type: radio
−options:
− - "All lockers, trim, accessories, and locks from a single manufacturer"
− - "Lockers and accessories furnished as a coordinated package by a single supplier"
−default: "All lockers, trim, accessories, and locks from a single manufacturer"
−```
−
−## Field Measurements {toc}
−
−### Bank lengths, recess depths, soffit heights, and the as-built location of walls and columns determine the number of lockers, the trim, and the filler panels required. {note}
−
−### The Contractor shall verify field dimensions at each locker location before fabrication.
−### Where field conditions differ from the contract drawings, the Contractor shall notify the Architect before fabrication so that openings, trim, and fillers can be adjusted.
−
−# Steel Sheet {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Steel Substrate
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Cold-rolled carbon steel sheet (ASTM A1008), standard dry interior"
− - "Galvannealed steel sheet (ASTM A653), elevated humidity / intermittent moisture"
−default: "Cold-rolled carbon steel sheet (ASTM A1008), standard dry interior"
−```
−
−## Locker components shall be formed from prime, commercial-quality mild steel sheet, free of surface imperfections.
−## Cold-rolled sheet shall conform to ASTM A1008/A1008M.
−## Where hot-rolled sheet is used for heavier structural members, it shall conform to ASTM A1011/A1011M.
−## Where lockers will be exposed to elevated humidity or intermittent moisture, zinc-coated (galvannealed) sheet conforming to ASTM A653/A653M shall be specified for the body and door so that the steel substrate resists corrosion at coating defects.
−## In sustained-wet or hose-down environments, steel lockers shall not be used and a non-metallic locker per [[sync/plastic-lockers]] shall be selected instead.
−
−# Component Gauges by Construction Grade {toc}
−
−## The steel gauge of each component is the physical measure of locker duty. {note}
−## Gauge is expressed as a sheet-metal gauge number, where a lower number is a thicker, heavier sheet. {note}
−## The body, door, and frame each carry a gauge appropriate to the construction grade; the door and the frame — the components that take direct abuse — are heavier than the body in every grade. {note}
−## The values below are the procurable standards across the major manufacturers for each grade. {note}
−
−## Standard-duty KD lockers ship as flat components fastened together in the field. {note}
−## They are the economical choice for supervised, low-abuse employee, office, and light-commercial applications. {note}
−## Standard-duty bodies are typically 24-gauge with 16-gauge door frames and 16-gauge doors. {note}
−
−## Heavy-duty KD lockers use heavier body and door sheet and reinforced frames while retaining field-assembled KD construction. {note}
−## They are the appropriate selection for school corridors and general institutional use. {note}
−## Heavy-duty bodies are typically 16-gauge with 14- or 16-gauge door frames and 14- or 16-gauge doors. {note}
−
−## Welded (fully assembled) lockers arrive as rigid, factory-welded units with no field-fastened body seams to loosen, racking-resistant frames, and the highest abuse resistance. {note}
−## They are the appropriate selection for athletic and team locker rooms, public recreation, corrections, and any environment with heavy abuse or no supervision. {note}
−## Welded bodies are typically 16-gauge with 12- or 14-gauge frames and 14- or 16-gauge doors. {note}
−
−## The locker body gauge shall be specified to match the selected construction grade and service duty.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Body Gauge
−type: radio
−options:
− - "24 gauge (standard-duty)"
− - "16 gauge (heavy-duty / welded)"
−default: "16 gauge (heavy-duty / welded)"
−```
−
−## The door frame gauge shall be specified to match the selected construction grade and service duty.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Door Frame Gauge
−type: radio
−options:
− - "16 gauge (standard / heavy-duty)"
− - "14 gauge (heavy-duty)"
− - "12 gauge (welded high-abuse)"
−default: "16 gauge (standard / heavy-duty)"
−```
−
−## The door gauge shall be specified to match the selected construction grade and service duty.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Door Gauge
−type: radio
−options:
− - "16 gauge (standard / heavy-duty)"
− - "14 gauge (heavy-duty / welded)"
−default: "16 gauge (standard / heavy-duty)"
−```
−
−## The construction grade shall be selected to match the service duty: standard-duty KD for supervised low-abuse employee and office use, heavy-duty KD for school corridors and general institutional use, and welded for athletic and team rooms, recreation, corrections, and any high-abuse or unsupervised environment.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Construction Grade
−type: select
−options:
− - "Standard-duty knocked-down (KD) — supervised, low-abuse employee/office"
− - "Heavy-duty knocked-down (KD) — school corridor, general institutional"
− - "Welded — athletic/team room, recreation, corrections, high-abuse"
−default: "Heavy-duty knocked-down (KD) — school corridor, general institutional"
−```
−## Standard-duty lockers shall not be specified for unsupervised school corridors, athletic rooms, or any high-abuse application.
−## Door frame vertical members shall form a continuous integral door strike the full height of the opening.
−## KD body seams shall be flanged to provide a double thickness of metal at joints and corners.
−
−# Finish {toc}
−
−## The five-stage (or better) pretreatment — clean, rinse, iron- or zinc-phosphate conversion, rinse, seal — is essential: powder coat applied over unphosphatized steel loses adhesion and the finish fails at the first impact or scratch. {note}
−
−## The finish gloss level shall be specified, selected to suit the application's exposure to scratching, fingerprints, and visible wear such as athletic or corridor use.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Finish Gloss (ASTM D523, 60-degree)
−type: select
−options:
− - "Low gloss / matte (hides scratches and fingerprints, athletic/corridor)"
− - "Medium / satin gloss"
− - "High gloss"
−default: "Low gloss / matte (hides scratches and fingerprints, athletic/corridor)"
−```
−
−## The locker finish color shall be specified, including whether a single, two-tone, or custom color match is required.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Finish Color
−type: select
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Manufacturer's standard color (single, as selected)"
− - "Two-tone (body one color, doors another)"
− - "Custom color match (extended lead time)"
−default: "Manufacturer's standard color (single, as selected)"
−```
−
−## Lockers shall be finished with a baked thermoset powder-coat enamel electrostatically applied over a cleaned, phosphatized steel substrate.
−## The cured finish shall meet the performance requirements specified below.
−## Finish adhesion shall be not less than rating 4B when tested per ASTM D3359 (cross-cut tape test).
−## Finish corrosion resistance shall show no more than minimal undercutting at a scribe after 500 hours of salt-spray exposure per ASTM B117.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Salt-Spray Exposure (ASTM B117) Minimum
−type: range
−unit: h
−options:
− min: 250
− max: 1000
− setpoints: [250, 500, 750, 1000]
−default: 500
−```
−## Finish impact resistance shall show no cracking or loss of adhesion at 80 in-lb direct impact per ASTM D2794.
−
−# Locker Types and Configuration {toc}
−
−## Tier Arrangement {toc}
−
−### The tier arrangement is the number of separately locking openings stacked within one locker frame height. {note}
−### More tiers give more openings per floor area at the cost of opening height. {note}
−
−### A single tier (one-tier) is one full-height opening per frame, suited to hanging coats and street clothes, and is the standard for employee and corridor lockers where garments are stored. {note}
−### A double tier (two-tier) stacks two openings, each roughly half the frame height — a common school-corridor configuration that doubles locker count where full-height hanging space is not required. {note}
−### A triple tier (three-tier) stacks three openings and is used where user count is high and stored items are small (gym clothes, books, personal effects). {note}
−### A box tier (four-, five-, or six-tier) provides four or more compact openings per frame for personal-item, valet, and day-use storage where many users share a small footprint. {note}
−### A Z-tier provides two interlocking Z-shaped openings per width, each giving partial hanging height at roughly half the floor area of a single-tier locker — a space-efficient compromise that still allows short garments to hang. {note}
−
−### Tier shall be selected for the contents and the user: full-height single tier for hanging garments and street clothes, and box or triple tier for compact personal-item storage and high user counts.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Tier
−type: select
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Single tier (one-tier) — full-height, hanging garments"
− - "Double tier (two-tier)"
− - "Triple tier (three-tier)"
− - "Box tier (four/five/six-tier) — compact personal items"
− - "Z-tier — interlocking, partial hanging height, space-efficient"
−default: "Single tier (one-tier) — full-height, hanging garments"
−```
−
−## Opening Size {toc}
−
−### The values below are the common procurable nominal sizes and serve as datasheet defaults where the drawings do not dictate otherwise. {note}
−
−### Individual opening width, depth, and frame height shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the locker elevations]].
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Opening Width (nominal)
−type: range
−unit: in
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− min: 9
− max: 24
− setpoints: [9, 12, 15, 18, 24]
−default: 12
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Depth (nominal)
−type: range
−unit: in
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− min: 12
− max: 24
− setpoints: [12, 15, 18, 21, 24]
−default: 15
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Frame Height (excluding base/legs)
−type: range
−unit: in
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− min: 60
− max: 72
− setpoints: [60, 66, 72]
−default: 72
−```
−
−## Ventilation {toc}
−
−### Non-ventilated solid doors are appropriate only for dry storage of non-perishable items. {note}
−### In humid and aquatic environments, ventilation alone does not protect plain steel; specify galvannealed substrate per Materials, or select a non-metallic locker per [[sync/plastic-lockers]]. {note}
−
−### Lockers that store damp athletic clothing, footwear, or wet-weather garments shall be ventilated so that moisture and odor are not trapped.
−### The ventilation type shall be matched to the airflow needed: louvered doors for general athletic and gym use, and full perforation or diamond perforation for maximum airflow in wet team rooms and pool environments.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Ventilation Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Solid (non-ventilated) — dry storage only"
− - "Louvered door (general athletic/gym ventilation)"
− - "Full-perforated door (high airflow, wet team rooms)"
− - "Diamond-perforated door and sides (maximum airflow, pool/aquatic)"
−default: "Louvered door (general athletic/gym ventilation)"
−```
−### Louvers and perforations shall be formed in the door (and, for diamond ventilation, the sides) without sharp edges.
−
−# Latching and Locking {toc}
−
−## The latching mechanism holds the door closed and engages the lock; the lock secures the contents. {note}
−## The two are selected together. {note}
−## Recessed handles and recessed latches reduce snag and vandalism in corridors and athletic rooms; surface lift handles are simpler and lower cost for supervised employee use. {note}
−## Multi-point latching distributes the holding force along the door height and resists prying in abuse-prone applications. {note}
−
−## Latch and Handle {toc}
−
−### Three-point (multi-point) latching engages the door at the top, center, and bottom of the frame and is the standard for unsupervised corridor and athletic lockers because it resists the pry-at-a-corner attack that defeats single-point latches. {note}
−### The recessed handle houses the lock in a protected pocket so the lock body cannot be struck or pried. {note}
−
−### The latch and handle shall be selected for the service environment: recessed handles and recessed latches for corridor and athletic rooms to reduce snag and vandalism, and surface lift handles for supervised employee use.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Latch and Handle Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Recessed handle, single-point latch (low-abuse, recessed lock pocket)"
− - "Recessed handle, three-point latch (corridor/athletic, anti-pry)"
− - "Surface lift handle, single-point latch (supervised employee)"
− - "Surface lift handle, multi-point latch"
−default: "Recessed handle, three-point latch (corridor/athletic, anti-pry)"
−```
−### Multi-point (three-point) latching shall be specified for unsupervised, abuse-prone corridor and athletic lockers to resist prying.
−
−## Locking Method {toc}
−
−### Built-in combination locks suit schools and shared institutional use; padlock hasps let users supply their own locks; key locks suit assigned employee lockers; electronic locks suit day-use and shared lockers where users set their own code per use. {note}
−### Where electronic locks are hard-wired or networked, power and data rough-in is coordinated with the electrical trade before fabrication. {note}
−
−### The built-in lock keying or control scheme shall be specified to match the Owner's access-control needs and key or combination management.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Built-In Lock Keying / Control
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Keyed alike within control group, master-keyed (key locks)"
− - "Combination set list provided to Owner (combination locks)"
− - "Owner-programmed at commissioning (electronic locks)"
− - "Not applicable (user-supplied padlock)"
−default: "Combination set list provided to Owner (combination locks)"
−```
−
−### The locking method shall be selected for the Owner's access-control needs, the user population, and the willingness to manage keys, combinations, or batteries.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locking Method
−type: select
−options:
− - "Recessed padlock hasp (user-supplied padlock)"
− - "Built-in combination lock (single-combination, assigned)"
− - "Built-in resettable/multi-user combination lock (shared/day-use)"
− - "Built-in key lock (cam/cylinder, keyed, master-keyed)"
− - "Electronic keypad/RFID lock (programmable, day-use or assigned)"
− - "Provision for Owner-furnished lock (hasp/cutout only)"
−default: "Built-in combination lock (single-combination, assigned)"
−```
−### Electronic locks shall be specified with a clearly defined power source (battery or hard-wired).
−### Electronic locks shall be specified with a documented mechanical or master override for lockout recovery.
−### Where electronic locks are hard-wired or networked, power and data rough-in shall be coordinated with the electrical trade before fabrication.
−### Where electronic locks are battery-powered, the closeout submittal shall state the battery type and the expected service interval.
−
−# Accessories and Trim {toc}
−
−## Trim and accessories finish a locker installation, close gaps to walls and soffits, keep dust and debris off and out of the lockers, and identify openings. {note}
−## They are selected for the installation condition and the housekeeping environment. {note}
−
−## Sloped Tops {toc}
−
−### Omitting sloped tops in a dusty or unsupervised environment is a common and avoidable maintenance failure. {note}
−
−### Continuous sloped tops, typically 16-gauge with an approximately 18-degree pitch, shall be specified for corridor, athletic, and public installations to prevent the locker tops from becoming a dust shelf and an informal storage surface.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Sloped Tops
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Continuous sloped tops (prevents storage/dust accumulation atop lockers)"
− - "Flat tops (storage shelf above, low-dust environment)"
−default: "Continuous sloped tops (prevents storage/dust accumulation atop lockers)"
−```
−### Sloped-top end closures and splice covers shall be furnished to finish exposed ends and joints.
−
−## Base {toc}
−
−### A Z-base (channel base) raises the lockers off the floor and creates a recessed toe space, improving appearance and simplifying floor cleaning; closed bases conceal legs for a finished look in public areas. {note}
−
−### The locker base condition shall be specified and coordinated with the finished flooring and base trades.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Base
−type: select
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Closed (front and end) base over legs (conceals legs, finished appearance)"
− - "Z-base / channel base, 4 in (raises lockers, creates toe space)"
− - "Z-base / channel base, 6 in"
− - "Legs exposed (utility/back-of-house)"
− - "No base — lockers set directly on finished floor"
−default: "Closed (front and end) base over legs (conceals legs, finished appearance)"
−```
−
−### The base condition shall be coordinated with the finished flooring and base trades.
−
−## End Panels, Filler Panels, and Recess Trim {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Exposed-End Treatment
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Finished end panels at all exposed locker ends"

−label: Recess Trim
−type: radio
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Provide recess trim where lockers are recessed into wall/soffit"
− - "Not required (lockers not recessed)"
−default: "Not required (lockers not recessed)"
−```
−
−### Finished end panels shall close exposed locker ends.
−### Filler panels shall close the gaps between lockers and walls, columns, or obstructions.
−### Recess trim shall bridge the gap to the wall and soffit where lockers are recessed.
−### Filler and trim quantities shall be confirmed against field dimensions before fabrication, because gap and obstruction conditions are not always apparent until field measurement.
−
−## Number Plates {toc}
−
−### An arbitrary numbering sequence forces the Owner to renumber after installation, so the sequence is set from the Owner's locker-assignment scheme. {note}
−
−### Number plates shall be riveted to each door at a consistent location.
−### The numbering sequence shall be coordinated with the Owner's locker-assignment scheme.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Number Plates
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Provide number plates, sequence per Owner schedule"
− - "Provide number plates, sequential by bank"
− - "Not required"
−default: "Provide number plates, sequence per Owner schedule"
−```
−
−## Interior Equipment and Benches {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Interior Equipment
−type: checkbox
−options:
− - "Coat hooks / single-prong wall hooks"
− - "Double-prong ceiling hooks"
− - "Coat rod (single-tier garment lockers)"
− - "Top shelf"
− - "Footwear shelf / bottom shelf"
−default: "Top shelf"
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker-Room Benches
−type: radio
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Provide benches (hardwood top on pedestals), lengths per drawings"
− - "Not required"
−default: "Not required"
−```
−
−### Where benches are provided, hardwood bench tops on metal pedestals shall be the standard.
−### Bench lengths and locations shall be [[drawing: as indicated]].
−### Where accessibility requires it, at least one bench complying with the accessible-bench provisions of the accessibility standard shall be provided in each locker room (see Accessibility below).

−### The 2010 ADA Standards (Sections 225 and 811) and ICC A117.1 require that at least 5 percent of lockers of each type, but no fewer than one of each type, comply. "Each type" includes each functional class of locker (for example, full-height garment lockers and box lockers are different types and each requires its accessible share). {note}
−
−### Where lockers are provided, accessible lockers shall be provided in accordance with the adopted accessibility standard.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Accessible Locker Quantity Basis
−type: radio
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "5 percent of each type, minimum one of each type (per ADA 811 / A117.1)"
− - "Greater quantity as indicated on the drawings"
−default: "5 percent of each type, minimum one of each type (per ADA 811 / A117.1)"
−```
−### The number, type, and location of accessible lockers shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the locker plans and accessibility compliance documents]].
−### The Architect shall confirm the count and configuration of accessible lockers from the accessibility compliance path.
−
−## Reach Ranges and Operable Parts {toc}
−
−### The defining requirement for an accessible locker is that its usable storage and every operable part fall within the reach range. {note}
−### Accessible lockers are normally located in a single tier or in the lower tier of a multi-tier bank so that the opening and the lock are reachable from a seated position. {note}
−### A conventional small combination dial or a key cam lock that must be pinched and twisted does not meet the operable-parts criteria.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Accessible Locker Operable-Parts Height (AFF)
−type: range
−unit: in AFF
−options:
− min: 15
− max: 48
− setpoints: [15, 36, 44, 48]
−default: 44
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Accessible Locker Lock Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Built-in combination lock with large, easy-grip dial/buttons"
− - "Electronic keypad/RFID lock (no grasping or twisting)"
− - "Recessed padlock hasp (only where padlock meets operable-parts criteria)"
−default: "Electronic keypad/RFID lock (no grasping or twisting)"
−```
−
−### The usable storage in an accessible locker shall be within an unobstructed forward or side reach range of 15 in. minimum to 48 in. maximum above the finished floor.
−### Every operable part of an accessible locker — handle, lock, keypad, and latch — shall be within the 15 in. to 48 in. reach range above the finished floor.
−### Every operable part of an accessible locker shall be operable with one hand without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist, and with no more than 5 lbf of force.
−### Accessible lockers shall use a lock operable with a closed fist or one easy motion.
−### A clear floor space and an accessible route shall be provided at each accessible locker.
−### The clear floor space at each accessible locker shall be verified against the locker plan.
−
−## Accessible Benches {toc}
−
−### Where benches are required in a locker room, at least one bench shall comply with the accessible-bench provisions (seat height, depth, back support, and clear floor space) of the accessibility standard.
−
−### The accessible bench and its clear floor space shall be coordinated with the locker layout so the clearance is not blocked by a locker bank.
−
−# Fabrication {toc}
−
−## Lockers shall be fabricated to the dimensions and configuration shown on the approved shop drawings.
−
−## Welded lockers shall be factory-welded into rigid units with welds ground smooth at exposed surfaces before finishing.
−
−## KD lockers shall be fabricated with formed, flanged components that assemble into square, rigid banks with mechanical fasteners.
−
−## Doors shall be formed with a continuous channel or box section at the lock edge.
−## Doors shall be hung to operate freely without binding, with the latch engaging the strike fully.
−
−## Louvers, perforations, and ventilation openings shall be formed without sharp or burred edges.
−
−## All components shall be cleaned, phosphatized, and powder-coated after forming and welding so that cut and formed edges are coated.
−
−## All exposed welds shall be ground smooth before finishing.
−
−## All sheared and formed edges shall be free of burrs and sharp edges.
−
−# Installation {toc}
−
−## Coordination and Blocking {toc}
−
−### Blocking is furnished and installed under the wall trades; anchoring lockers or benches to gypsum board without blocking is a primary cause of failure. {note}
−
−### Lockers shall be installed after the wall and floor finishes are complete and the building is enclosed and conditioned.
−### The Contractor shall verify before installation that solid in-wall blocking has been provided where lockers, trim, or benches anchor to walls.
−
−```datasheet
−label: In-Wall Blocking Verified Before Installation
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Yes — blocking verified at all wall anchorage points before installation"
− - "Not applicable — no wall-anchored components"
−default: "Yes — blocking verified at all wall anchorage points before installation"
−```
−### The locker Contractor shall confirm the presence and location of blocking against the shop drawings and shall notify the Architect of any missing or mislocated blocking before proceeding.
−### Anchoring lockers or benches to gypsum board without blocking shall not be permitted.
−
−## Anchorage {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Anchorage Condition
−type: select
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Floor-anchored and wall-anchored (back to wall)"
− - "Floor-anchored and top-anchored to wall (tall single-row banks)"
− - "Back-to-back freestanding, floor-anchored and braced"
− - "Recessed into wall opening, anchored to surrounding structure"
−default: "Floor-anchored and wall-anchored (back to wall)"
−```
−
−### Lockers shall be set level and plumb, shimmed as required, and anchored to the building structure.
−### Banks shall be bolted together into continuous runs and anchored to the floor and, where backs are accessible, to the wall.
−### Anchorage shall use fasteners appropriate to the substrate — expansion or wedge anchors into concrete, anchors into masonry, and through-bolts or lag screws into in-wall blocking within stud walls.
−### Tall lockers shall be anchored at the top to the wall or, where freestanding, braced back-to-back, so they cannot tip.
−
−## Seismic Restraint {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Seismic Anchorage Required
−type: radio
−drawing_ref: true
−options:
− - "Yes — seismic anchorage per ASCE/SEI 7 and sealed calculations"
− - "No — not required by the seismic design category"
−default: "No — not required by the seismic design category"
−```
−
−### Seismic restraint is determined by the project's seismic design category and the locker height and weight. {note}
−
−### Where the seismic design category requires anchorage of nonstructural components, lockers (particularly banks 60 in. or taller) shall be anchored vertically and laterally to resist the seismic forces determined per ASCE/SEI 7, in accordance with the sealed anchorage calculations and details submitted under Submittals.
−### The Architect and Structural Engineer shall confirm the seismic-restraint requirement.
−### Anchorage relying solely on sheet-metal screws into unbraced studs shall not be accepted as satisfying a seismic anchorage requirement.
−
−## Adjustment and Cleaning {toc}
−
−### Field touch-up does not reproduce the baked finish, so damaged components are replaced rather than field-repaired. {note}
−
−### After installation the Contractor shall adjust every door so it operates freely, latches fully, and the lock engages.
−### After installation the Contractor shall verify that accessible lockers' operable parts are within the reach range and operable as specified.
−### After installation the Contractor shall install all trim, number plates, and accessories and shall clean all surfaces.
−### Protective coverings shall remain in place until adjustment and cleaning are complete.
−### Doors that bind, latches that do not engage, and finish damage shall be corrected.
−### Deep scratches and corroded components shall be replaced rather than field-repaired.
−
−# Warranty {toc}
−
−## Welded heavy-duty locker programs commonly carry substantially longer warranties than standard-duty KD lockers. {note}
−
−## The lock warranty coverage shall be specified to match the selected locking method.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Lock Warranty
−type: select
−options:
− - "Manufacturer's standard lock warranty (mechanical locks)"
− - "Extended electronic-lock warranty including controller and keypad"
−default: "Manufacturer's standard lock warranty (mechanical locks)"
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Contractor Installation Warranty
−type: select
−options:
− - "1 year from substantial completion"
− - "2 years from substantial completion"
−default: "1 year from substantial completion"
−```
−
−## The manufacturer shall warrant the lockers against defects in materials and workmanship — including finish adhesion, door and latch operation, and structural integrity of the body and frame — for the specified period.
−## Where the project uses welded construction, the longer warranty offered by the welded program should be obtained and documented.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Locker Warranty Period
−type: select
−options:
− - "1 year from substantial completion — standard"
− - "5 years from substantial completion"
− - "Lifetime limited warranty against defects (welded heavy-duty programs)"
−default: "5 years from substantial completion"
−```
−## The warranty shall not cover abuse beyond the rated service condition, improper cleaning chemicals, or modifications made without the manufacturer's authorization.
−## The Contractor shall warrant the installation — including level and plumb setting, anchorage and seismic restraint, door alignment, and compliance of accessible lockers with the reach-range and operable-parts requirements — for the specified period.
−## Deficiencies attributable to installation workmanship shall be corrected by the Contractor at no cost to the Owner.

+title: Metal Lockers
+category: Architectural / Specialties
+description: >
+ When to use: Factory-fabricated sheet-steel lockers and their doors, latching, locking, trim, interior equipment, and anchorage, in knocked-down or welded construction, for school corridors, athletic and team rooms, employee and industrial change rooms, public recreation, and day-use storage. Covers substrate selection and corrosion protection, component sheet thickness, tier and opening configuration, door ventilation, latching and locking including electronic locks, powder-coat finish performance, tops, bases and closure trim, accessible lockers under the ADA Standards and ICC A117.1, and floor, wall, and seismic anchorage.
+ Not intended for: Solid-polymer (HDPE), phenolic, or plastic-laminate lockers (see [[sync/plastic-lockers]]); wood and high-pressure-laminate casework and cubbies (see [[sync/wood-and-laminate-casework]]); wire-mesh storage partitions and tool cribs; bulk shelving and pallet rack; mail and parcel-delivery lockers; refrigerated, evidence, or asset-management locker systems furnished as a packaged building system; toilet compartments (see [[sync/toilet-compartments]]).
+---
+
+# Scope {toc}
+
+## This standard covers the furnishing and installation of factory-fabricated metal lockers, including the locker body and door, latching and locking hardware, finish, trim, interior equipment, benches furnished with the locker installation, and anchorage to the building structure. {note}
+
+## A metal locker is an assembly of formed sheet steel — a body of back, sides, top, and bottom; a door; and a door frame that carries the hinges and the strike — joined either with mechanical fasteners as a knocked-down (KD) assembly or by welding into a rigid factory-assembled unit, and finished with a baked coating over a phosphate pretreatment. {note}
+
+## The following are outside the scope of this standard: {note}
+- Lockers whose body and door are a non-metallic material, which are covered by [[sync/plastic-lockers]]
+- Casework, cubbies, and open shelving units built as millwork, which are covered by [[sync/wood-and-laminate-casework]]
+- Wire-mesh storage partitions, tool cribs, and bulk shelving
+- Mail, parcel-delivery, evidence, and refrigerated locker systems furnished as packaged building systems
+- The security, access-control, and network head end that a networked electronic locker lock reports to, which is covered by [[sync/access-control-systems]]
+
+## The decision that drives cost, service life, and complaint volume in this standard is the match between construction method, component thickness, and the abuse the installation will actually see. {note}
+
+## Two lockers that look identical in an elevation can differ by a factor of three in sheet thickness and by an order of magnitude in resistance to prying, so the datasheet separates construction method, body thickness, door thickness, and frame thickness into independent selections rather than bundling them into a single duty grade. {note}
+
+## The number of lockers, the bank lengths, the location of each bank, and the location of the accessible lockers shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the locker plans and elevations]].
+
+## The Contractor shall coordinate in-wall blocking and wall-anchorage backing with the wall trades under [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]] and [[sync/unit-masonry]] before the walls are closed in.
+
+# Referenced Standards {toc}
+
+## Materials, fabrication, finish, hardware, and installation shall comply with the latest adopted edition of each of the following unless a specific edition is cited.
+
+## Where referenced standards conflict, the more stringent requirement shall govern unless the Engineer of Record directs otherwise in writing.

+# Submittals {toc}
+
+## Action Submittals {toc}
+
+### Action submittals are reviewed and returned before fabrication, and they are the last point at which an opening size, a lock function, or an accessible-locker location can be corrected without a change order. {note}
+
+### The Contractor shall submit the following for review and shall not release the lockers for fabrication until the submittals have been returned:
+- Product data for each locker type, giving the construction method, the sheet thickness of body, door, and frame, the ventilation type, the finish system, and the lock function
+- Dimensioned shop drawings showing plans and elevations of every bank, the tier arrangement, individual opening sizes, bank lengths, and overall dimensions
+- Shop drawing identification of each accessible locker, with the mounting height of its operable parts dimensioned above the finished floor
+- Trim, top, base, end-panel, filler-panel, and recess-trim locations, and the number-plate sequence
+- Anchorage details showing the connection of each bank to the floor, wall, or surrounding construction
+- Signed and sealed seismic anchorage calculations prepared in accordance with ASCE/SEI 7 where the seismic design category requires anchorage of nonstructural components
+- Finish color samples covering the full standard color line offered for the specified finish system
+- A sample locker door with the specified handle and lock installed, where a mock-up is requested
+- Finish test reports covering adhesion, salt-spray corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and gloss
+- Lock hardware data, including the ANSI/BHMA grade or test basis and, for electronic locks, the power source, override method, and credential type
+
+```datasheet
+label: Action Submittals Required
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Product data for each locker type"
+ - "Dimensioned shop drawings with tier arrangement and opening sizes"
+ - "Accessible locker identification with operable-part heights dimensioned"
+ - "Trim, top, base, and number-plate layout"
+ - "Anchorage details to floor, wall, and surrounding construction"
+ - "Sealed seismic anchorage calculations per ASCE/SEI 7"
+ - "Finish color samples, full standard color line"
+ - "Sample locker door with specified handle and lock"
+ - "Finish test reports (D3359, B117, D2794, D523)"
+ - "Lock hardware data with grade, override, and credential type"
+default:

+ - "Accessible locker identification with operable-part heights dimensioned"
+ - "Anchorage details to floor, wall, and surrounding construction"
+ - "Finish color samples, full standard color line"
+ - "Finish test reports (D3359, B117, D2794, D523)"
+```
+
+### Product data shall state the sheet thickness of the body, the door, and the door frame as a gauge number and as a decimal thickness in inches, so that the submitted product can be compared against the datasheet selection without reference to a manufacturer's gauge chart.
+
+### Shop drawings shall be prepared from field measurements taken at each locker location, not from the contract drawings alone.
+
+### Where the Contractor proposes a locker whose sheet thickness differs from the datasheet selection, the proposal shall be identified as a deviation on the transmittal and shall state the thickness offered for each component.
+
+## Closeout Submittals {toc}
+
+### Closeout submittals hand the Owner what is needed to open a locker whose user has forgotten a combination, to reorder a matching part, and to enforce the warranty. {note}
+
+### The Contractor shall deliver the following at substantial completion:
+- Care and maintenance instructions, including the cleaning agents that the finish warranty permits and those it excludes
+- The written manufacturer warranty for the lockers and for the locks
+- The written Contractor installation warranty
+- A control record for the installed locks, consisting of the keying schedule for key locks, the combination list for combination locks, and the programming and administrator credential record for electronic locks
+- A parts list identifying each door, shelf, hook, number plate, and lock by the manufacturer's order designation
+- An inventory of the attic stock furnished under this standard
+
+```datasheet
+label: Closeout Submittals Required
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Care and maintenance instructions with permitted cleaning agents"
+ - "Written manufacturer warranty for lockers and locks"
+ - "Written Contractor installation warranty"
+ - "Lock control record (keying schedule, combination list, programming record)"
+ - "Parts list with order designations"
+ - "Attic stock inventory"
+default:
+ - "Care and maintenance instructions with permitted cleaning agents"
+ - "Written manufacturer warranty for lockers and locks"
+ - "Written Contractor installation warranty"
+ - "Lock control record (keying schedule, combination list, programming record)"
+ - "Attic stock inventory"
+```
+
+### The lock control record shall be transmitted directly to the Owner's designated representative and shall not be left in, on, or with the lockers.
+
+### The Contractor shall confirm in writing that the lock control record transmitted at closeout matches the locks as installed and adjusted, including any locks replaced during the correction period.
+
+# Quality Assurance {toc}
+
+## Manufacturer Qualifications {toc}
+
+### The locker manufacturer shall be a firm regularly engaged in the production of metal lockers of the construction method and lock type specified, with not less than five years of production under its current ownership.
+
+### The manufacturer shall furnish, on request, the location and date of not fewer than three installations of comparable size and service using the specified construction method.
+
+## Source Compatibility of Lockers, Trim, and Locks {toc}
+
+### Trim, fillers, sloped tops, and bases are formed to one manufacturer's locker module and frame profile, so a filler cut for one profile leaves a visible gap or a proud edge against another. {note}
+
+### Built-in locks are machined to the manufacturer's door and frame preparation, and a lock body that does not match the preparation will either not fit the cutout or will not engage the strike at full throw. {note}
+
+### The locker body, door, door frame, trim, and built-in locks within a single installation shall be furnished by a single manufacturer.
+
+### Where the Owner directs that locks be furnished separately from the lockers, the locker manufacturer shall furnish the doors factory-prepared for the designated lock, and the party furnishing the lock shall provide the preparation template before fabrication.
+
+## Field Dimension Verification {toc}
+
+### Bank lengths, recess depths, soffit heights, and the as-built position of walls and columns determine how many lockers fit, how wide the fillers must be, and whether recess trim is needed at all, and none of those are reliably known from the contract drawings. {note}
+
+### The Contractor shall verify field dimensions at each locker location before releasing the lockers for fabrication.
+
+### Where a field dimension differs from the contract drawings by more than the width of the smallest filler panel the manufacturer offers, the Contractor shall notify the Architect in writing before fabrication.
+
+# Moisture and Corrosion Exposure {toc}
+
+## Corrosion of a steel locker starts at a coating defect — a chipped edge, a drilled hole, a scratch from a hasp — and not on the intact painted face, so the substrate's own corrosion resistance governs how long the locker survives once the finish is broken. {note}
+
+## Where the locker is exposed to condensing humidity, chlorinated pool air, or wet garments that are stored daily, a zinc-coated substrate keeps corroding steel from undercutting the coating at each defect. {note}
+
+## Where the installation is washed down with a hose or a pressure washer, water enters the body seams and the base regardless of substrate, and a non-metallic locker per [[sync/plastic-lockers]] avoids the exposure rather than resisting it. {note}
+
+## The service exposure at each locker location shall be as indicated in the datasheet, and the substrate and finish shall be selected to suit it.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Service Exposure at Locker Location
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Conditioned dry interior"
+ - "Interior with intermittent elevated humidity"
+ - "Athletic or team room with damp garments stored daily"
+ - "Natatorium or chlorinated pool environment"
+ - "Wash-down or hose-down cleaning"
+ - "Unconditioned interior or exterior-adjacent"
+ - "Industrial with airborne oils, solvents, or metallic dust"
+default: "Conditioned dry interior"
+```
+
+## Where wash-down cleaning is indicated, the Contractor shall submit the manufacturer's written confirmation that the proposed locker is rated for that cleaning method, or shall propose a non-metallic locker for the Architect's consideration before fabrication.
+
+# Sheet Steel and Substrate Protection {toc}
+
+## Locker components shall be formed from prime steel sheet free of pits, scale, buckle, and coil-set marks in exposed surfaces.
+
+## Cold-rolled sheet shall conform to ASTM A1008/A1008M.
+
+## Hot-rolled sheet, where used for heavier structural members such as frames and legs, shall conform to ASTM A1011/A1011M.
+
+## Zinc-coated and zinc-iron alloy-coated (galvannealed) sheet shall conform to ASTM A653/A653M.
+
+## Stainless steel sheet shall conform to ASTM A240/A240M.
+
+## The sheet substrate shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Sheet Steel Substrate
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Cold-rolled carbon steel sheet, ASTM A1008"
+ - "Galvannealed sheet steel, ASTM A653 A60 coating"
+ - "Hot-dip galvanized sheet steel, ASTM A653 G90 coating"
+ - "Stainless steel sheet, ASTM A240 Type 304"
+ - "Stainless steel sheet, ASTM A240 Type 316"
+default: "Cold-rolled carbon steel sheet, ASTM A1008"
+```
+
+## Galvannealed sheet accepts a powder-coat finish directly because its zinc-iron alloy surface is matte and paint-receptive, whereas a spangled hot-dip galvanized surface requires an additional pretreatment step for coating adhesion. {note}
+
+## Type 316 stainless resists chloride pitting better than Type 304, which is the difference that matters in a natatorium or a coastal installation. {note}
+
+## Where stainless steel sheet is specified, exposed surfaces shall be furnished with a uniform directional finish, and the direction of the polish lines shall be consistent across each bank.
+
+## Where a zinc-coated substrate is specified, cut edges and drilled holes shall be treated before finishing so that the exposed steel edge is not left bare beneath the coating.
+
+# Locker Construction {toc}
+
+## Construction Method {toc}
+
+### In a knocked-down locker the body panels ship flat and are drawn together in the field with mechanical fasteners, so every body seam is a joint that can loosen, and the assembly's squareness depends on the installer. {note}
+
+### In a welded locker the body is joined in the factory into a rigid unit, so there are no field-fastened body seams to loosen and the frame resists racking when the door is pulled or levered. {note}
+
+### Where lockers are unsupervised, subject to forced-entry attempts, or handled roughly enough that doors are kicked and levered, welded construction removes the body seams that a prying attack works on first. {note}
+
+### Where lockers must be delivered through a finished building with restricted access, knocked-down components pass through doors and elevators that an assembled welded bank cannot. {note}
+
+### The construction method shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Construction Method
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Knocked-down (KD), field-assembled with mechanical fasteners"
+ - "Welded, factory-assembled into rigid units"
+```
+
+### Knocked-down body seams shall be flanged so that the fastened joint develops a double thickness of metal at corners and along the full length of each seam.
+
+### Welded assemblies shall be welded in accordance with AWS D1.3/D1.3M, and welds on exposed surfaces shall be ground flush before finishing.
+
+### Fasteners used in knocked-down assembly shall be furnished by the locker manufacturer and shall not be substituted with generic sheet-metal screws.
+
+## Component Sheet Thickness {toc}
+
+### Sheet thickness is expressed as a gauge number in which a lower number is a thicker sheet, so a 14-gauge door is heavier than a 16-gauge door. {note}
+
+### The door and the door frame take the direct load in service — the frame carries the hinges and the strike, and the door absorbs every impact — so both are conventionally thicker than the body panels they are mounted to. {note}
+
+### Where a locker is opened and closed many times each day, frame thickness governs how long the hinge and strike geometry survives, because a light frame deflects at the strike and the door begins to catch. {note}
+
+### Where a locker is loaded with heavy gear or used as a step, the bottom and shelf thickness governs whether the pan deforms, independent of the door and frame selection. {note}
+
+### The body sheet thickness shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Body Sheet Thickness
+type: select
+options:
+ - "24 gauge"
+ - "22 gauge"
+ - "20 gauge"
+ - "18 gauge"
+ - "16 gauge"
+ - "14 gauge"
+```
+
+### The door sheet thickness shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Door Sheet Thickness
+type: select
+options:
+ - "18 gauge"
+ - "16 gauge"
+ - "14 gauge"
+ - "12 gauge"
+```
+
+### The door frame sheet thickness shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Door Frame Sheet Thickness
+type: select
+options:
+ - "18 gauge"
+ - "16 gauge"
+ - "14 gauge"
+ - "12 gauge"
+```
+
+### The shelf and bottom sheet thickness shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Shelf and Bottom Sheet Thickness
+type: select
+options:
+ - "24 gauge"
+ - "22 gauge"
+ - "20 gauge"
+ - "18 gauge"
+ - "16 gauge"
+```
+
+### The door frame vertical members shall be formed to provide a continuous integral door strike for the full height of the opening.
+
+### Doors shall be formed with a continuous channel or box section at the lock edge so that the lock stile resists twisting when the door is levered.
+
+# Locker Configuration {toc}
+
+## Tier Arrangement {toc}
+
+### The tier arrangement is the number of separately locking openings stacked within one locker frame height, and it trades opening height against the number of users a given run of wall serves. {note}
+
+### The tier arrangements in general production are: {note}
+- Single tier, one full-height opening per frame, tall enough to hang a coat on a rod or hook
+- Double tier, two openings each about half the frame height
+- Triple tier, three openings sized for gym clothes, books, and personal effects
+- Box tier, four, five, or six compact openings per frame for personal items and day use
+- Z-tier, two interlocking Z-shaped openings per width, each with partial hanging height at about half the floor area of a single tier
+- Duplex or two-person, a single-tier frame divided vertically into two narrow full-height openings
+
+### Where garments must hang full length without folding, only a single tier or a Z-tier provides the clear height, and the choice between them is floor area against convenience. {note}
+
+### The tier arrangement shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Tier Arrangement
+type: select
+drawing_ref: "as indicated on the locker elevations"
+options:
+ - "Single tier"
+ - "Double tier"
+ - "Triple tier"
+ - "Four-tier box"
+ - "Five-tier box"
+ - "Six-tier box"
+ - "Z-tier"
+ - "Duplex (two-person single tier)"
+default: deferred
+```
+
+### Where more than one tier arrangement occurs in a single bank, each arrangement shall be identified separately on the shop drawings with its opening count and dimensions.
+
+## Opening and Frame Dimensions {toc}
+
+### Opening dimensions are set by what is stored and by the floor area available, and both are project facts rather than product norms, so these fields carry no assumed value. {note}

+setpoints: [36, 42, 48, 60, 66, 72, 78]
+default: deferred
+```
+
+### The overall installed height of each bank, measured from the finished floor to the top of the sloped top or flat top, shall be shown on the shop drawings and shall be confirmed against the soffit or ceiling height at each location.
+
+### Where lockers are installed beneath a soffit or a bulkhead, the Contractor shall verify that the frame height plus the base height plus the top assembly clears the soffit before fabrication.
+
+## Door Ventilation {toc}
+
+### Ventilation openings let stored moisture evaporate instead of condensing inside a closed steel box, and the amount of open area — not the presence of any opening at all — is what determines whether damp gear dries between uses. {note}
+
+### Ventilation types run from a solid door with no open area, through louvers punched in the door face, to perforated and expanded-mesh doors whose open area is a large fraction of the door. {note}
+
+### Where doors are non-ventilated, stored damp garments and footwear hold moisture against the door and body, and both odor and finish corrosion follow. {note}
+
+### Where visual privacy of the contents matters, louvers obscure the interior while a perforated or mesh door does not, and where staff must see into a locker without opening it, that relationship reverses. {note}
+
+### Where ventilation open area increases, the door loses stiffness and the material removed reduces resistance to a pry attack, so a heavier door gauge is often selected alongside a high-open-area door. {note}
+
+### The door ventilation type shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Door Ventilation Type
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Solid door, no ventilation openings"
+ - "Louvered door"
+ - "Louvered door and louvered sides"
+ - "Rectangular-perforated door"
+ - "Diamond-perforated door"
+ - "Diamond-perforated door and sides"
+ - "Expanded metal mesh door"
+ - "Expanded metal mesh door, sides, and back"
+default: "Louvered door"
+```
+
+### Where a ventilated body is specified, the ventilation openings in the body shall not be blocked by an adjoining locker back, a wall, or a filler panel.
+
+# Latching and Hinges {toc}
+
+## Handle Type {toc}
+
+### The handle is the part a user touches, and it also decides where the lock lives: a recessed handle houses the lock inside a formed pocket so the lock body cannot be struck directly, while a surface handle leaves the lock exposed on the door face. {note}
+
+### Where lockers line a circulation route, a surface handle projects into the path and catches clothing, bags, and passing traffic. {note}
+
+### The handle type shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Handle Type
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Recessed handle with lock housed in the handle pocket"
+ - "Recessed finger pull with padlock hasp"
+ - "Surface-mounted lift handle"
+ - "Surface-mounted turn handle"
+ - "Flush pull with no projecting handle"
+```
+
+### Handles shall be attached to the door with concealed fasteners or with tamper-resistant fasteners accessible from the door interior.
+
+## Latching {toc}
+
+### A single-point latch holds the door at one place, so a lever applied at the far corner of the door works against one engagement; a multi-point latch spreads the same lever across engagements at the top, middle, and bottom of the frame. {note}
+
+### Where doors are tall and lightly gauged, multi-point latching also holds the free edge of the door in plane, which keeps the door from bowing away from the frame under load. {note}
+
+### The number of latch engagement points shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Door Latch Engagement Points
+type: range
+unit: points
+min: 1
+max: 3
+setpoints: [1, 2, 3]
+```
+
+### Latches shall operate without the user lifting, holding, or supporting the door.
+
+### Latch components exposed inside the locker shall not project into the usable storage volume.
+
+### Where a positive latch is specified for a ventilated door, the latch shall engage the frame independently of the ventilation openings so that the open area does not become the point of attack.
+
+## Hinges {toc}
+
+### Hinge count and attachment carry the entire door weight through every cycle, and a hinge that pulls out of a light door edge is the most common single-component failure in a heavily used bank. {note}
+
+### The hinge type and count shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Door Hinge Type
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Full-height continuous piano hinge"
+ - "Two five-knuckle butt hinges"
+ - "Three five-knuckle butt hinges"
+ - "Concealed pin hinge"
+default: "Two five-knuckle butt hinges"
+```
+
+### Hinges shall be attached to the door and to the frame with welds or with fasteners that cannot be removed from outside the closed and locked locker.
+
+### Doors shall swing freely through their full arc without binding on the frame, the adjoining door, or the trim.
+
+# Locking and Access Control {toc}
+
+## Locking Method {toc}
+
+### The locking method sets who holds the means of opening the locker and who bears the administrative burden when that means is lost. {note}
+
+### Where users supply their own padlocks, the Owner carries no key or combination administration but also has no reliable means of opening a locker whose user has left. {note}
+
+### Where built-in combination locks are used, the Owner holds a control key or control chart and can open any locker, at the cost of maintaining that record for the life of the installation. {note}
+
+### Where electronic locks are used, a user can set a code per use without any Owner action, and the Owner's burden shifts from keys and combinations to batteries, firmware, and credential management. {note}
+
+### The locking method shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locking Method
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Recessed padlock hasp for a user-supplied padlock"
+ - "Padlock lug or eye for a user-supplied padlock"
+ - "Built-in combination lock with an assigned fixed combination"
+ - "Built-in resettable combination lock for shared or day use"
+ - "Built-in key cam lock"
+ - "Built-in combination lock with key override"
+ - "Electronic keypad lock"
+ - "Electronic credential lock reading a card or fob"
+ - "Locker factory-prepared for an Owner-furnished lock"
+```
+
+### Mechanical lock cylinders and input devices shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.5.
+
+### Electrified locking devices shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.25.
+
+### Where a padlock hasp or lug is specified, the hasp shall be recessed or shielded so that the padlock shackle cannot be reached by a bolt cutter positioned square to the shackle.
+
+### Where the lockers are factory-prepared for an Owner-furnished lock, the preparation dimensions shall be confirmed against the Owner's lock before the doors are fabricated, and the Contractor shall not close the submittal on a generic preparation.
+
+## Keying and Lock Control {toc}
+
+### A keying arrangement decides how many locks one key opens, which is a security decision and an operations decision at the same time. {note}
+
+### The keying arrangement shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Lock Keying Arrangement
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Keyed different, one key per locker"
+ - "Keyed alike within each control group"
+ - "Master-keyed with a single Owner master"
+ - "Grand-master-keyed across control groups"
+ - "Combination controlled, no keying"
+ - "Not applicable, user-supplied lock"
+```
+
+### Where key locks are specified, two keys shall be furnished for each locker and two control or master keys shall be furnished for each control group.
+
+### Where combination locks are specified, no two lockers within one control group shall be furnished with the same combination.
+
+### The Contractor shall not disclose the combination list, the master keying schedule, or the administrator credential to any party other than the Owner's designated representative.
+
+## Electronic Locks {toc}
+
+### An electronic lock that cannot be opened when its power source fails converts a routine lockout into a destructive entry, so the override path is the part of the selection that matters most. {note}
+
+### Where an electronic lock is networked, it becomes part of the building's access-control system and inherits that system's commissioning, credential, and cybersecurity requirements under [[sync/access-control-systems]]. {note}
+
+### The electronic lock power source shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Electronic Lock Power Source
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Self-contained battery within each lock"
+ - "Hard-wired low-voltage power to each bank"
+ - "Not applicable, no electronic locks"
+default: "Not applicable, no electronic locks"
+```
+
+### Where electronic locks are specified, each lock shall be furnished with a mechanical key override or a portable programming override that opens the lock without power.
+
+### Where electronic locks are battery-powered, the Contractor shall submit the battery type and the manufacturer's stated service interval, and shall furnish one complete set of replacement batteries at substantial completion.
+
+### Where electronic locks are hard-wired, the Contractor shall coordinate the power rough-in location, the conduit path, and the transformer or power supply location with the electrical trade before fabrication.
+
+### Where electronic locks are networked, the Contractor shall change every factory default password and administrator credential before substantial completion and shall record the change in the lock control record.
+
+# Finish {toc}
+
+## Pretreatment and Coating System {toc}
+
+### Powder coat applied over unphosphatized steel bonds to mill scale and rolling oils rather than to the steel, and the finish then lifts in sheets at the first impact or scratch rather than chipping locally. {note}
+
+### A multi-stage pretreatment — clean, rinse, phosphate conversion, rinse, seal — converts the steel surface itself into a crystalline layer the coating can key into, which is why the pretreatment line and not the powder is what separates a durable locker finish from a poor one. {note}
+
+### Locker components shall be cleaned, phosphatized, rinsed, and sealed before the finish coat is applied.
+
+### The finish system shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Finish System
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Baked thermoset powder-coat enamel over phosphate pretreatment"
+ - "Baked liquid enamel over phosphate pretreatment"
+ - "No applied coating, stainless or zinc-coated substrate exposed"
+default: "Baked thermoset powder-coat enamel over phosphate pretreatment"
+```
+
+### Components shall be formed, punched, welded, and drilled before the finish is applied, so that cut edges, formed radii, and hole edges receive coating.
+
+### Where a component must be cut, drilled, or welded after finishing, the disturbed area shall be cleaned and touched up with the manufacturer's matching coating before the locker is placed in service.
+
+### Non-metallic locker components exposed to the room, including trim, bench tops, and door inserts, shall have a flame spread index and smoke developed index meeting the interior finish class required by the adopted building code when tested in accordance with ASTM E84.
+
+## Color {toc}
+
+### Color availability is a catalog fact rather than a project requirement, and the practical selection question is whether the project takes a single color, contrasts doors against bodies, or pays for a match to a color outside the offered line. {note}
+
+### The finish color scheme shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Finish Color Scheme
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Single color throughout"
+ - "Two-tone, bodies one color and doors another"
+ - "Multiple colors distributed across banks or tiers"
+ - "Custom color matched to a submitted sample"
+default: "Single color throughout"
+```
+
+### Colors shall be selected by the Architect from the full standard color line offered for the specified finish system, unless a custom color match is indicated in the datasheet.
+
+### Where a custom color match is indicated, the Contractor shall submit a drawdown or a coated sample panel for approval and shall state the added lead time on the transmittal before fabrication is released.
+
+### Where multiple colors are used, the shop drawings shall identify the color of every body and every door by bank and by opening.
+
+## Finish Performance {toc}
+
+### The gloss level of a locker finish is a maintenance decision as much as an aesthetic one, because a high-gloss surface returns a sharper reflection and therefore shows shallow scratches, fingerprints, and cleaning swirl that a matte surface diffuses. {note}
+
+### The finish gloss level shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Finish Gloss Level, ASTM D523 at 60°
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Matte or low gloss"
+ - "Satin or medium gloss"
+ - "Semi-gloss"
+ - "High gloss"
+ - "Textured or hammertone"
+```
+
+### Finish adhesion shall be not less than rating 4B when tested in accordance with ASTM D3359, Test Method B.
+
+### Finish impact resistance shall show no cracking and no loss of adhesion at 80 in-lbf direct impact when tested in accordance with ASTM D2794.
+
+### The minimum salt-spray exposure the finish shall withstand shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Minimum Salt-Spray Exposure, ASTM B117
+type: range
+unit: h
+min: 96
+max: 1000
+setpoints: [96, 250, 500, 750, 1000]
+default: 500
+```
+
+### At the conclusion of the specified salt-spray exposure, the coating shall show no blistering greater than Few, Size 8 when rated in accordance with ASTM D714, and no undercutting at the scribe greater than 1/16 in. on either side.
+
+### Where the finish test reports submitted do not cover the specified exposure duration, the Contractor shall arrange testing of the proposed finish at the Contractor's cost and shall submit the results before fabrication.
+
+# Tops, Bases, and Closure Trim {toc}
+
+## Tops {toc}
+
+### A flat locker top in a corridor becomes an informal shelf and a dust ledge that nobody can reach to clean, and once objects are stored there the tops also become a fall hazard when retrieved. {note}
+
+### A sloped top removes the horizontal surface, and the same assembly is what conceals the joint between the locker top and any soffit above. {note}
+
+### Where lockers stand in a low-dust, supervised space and the top of the bank is deliberately used for display or storage, a flat top is the usable surface and a sloped top removes it. {note}
+
+### The locker top treatment shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Top Treatment
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Continuous sloped top"
+ - "Flat top"
+ - "Flat top with a separate closure panel to the soffit above"
+```
+
+### Where sloped tops are specified, end closures shall be furnished at each exposed end of the run and splice covers shall be furnished at each joint between sloped-top sections.
+
+### Sloped tops shall be furnished in continuous lengths matching the bank, with joints occurring only at the ends of a manufactured section.
+
+## Base Condition {toc}
+
+### A base raises the locker body off the floor so that mopping, floor scrubbing, and standing water do not sit against the bottom pan and the body seam. {note}
+
+### A channel or Z base creates a recessed toe space, which lets a user stand closer to the opening and lets a floor machine run to the face of the run without striking the locker. {note}
+
+### A closed base conceals the legs and the underside, which removes the space where debris collects and where a small item can be pushed out of reach. {note}
+
+### Where the run is set on a raised concrete curb or an integral base built by another trade, the locker base is redundant and the lockers set directly on the curb. {note}
+
+### The locker base condition shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Base Condition
+type: select
+drawing_ref: "as indicated on the locker elevations"
+options:
+ - "Closed base at front and ends over legs, 4 in. high"
+ - "Closed base at front and ends over legs, 6 in. high"
+ - "Channel or Z base, 4 in. high"
+ - "Channel or Z base, 6 in. high"
+ - "Exposed legs with no base trim"
+ - "No base, lockers set directly on the finished floor"
+ - "No base, lockers set on a curb or platform by another trade"
+```
+
+### The base condition shall be coordinated with the finished flooring and the wall base trim so that the flooring is installed to, under, or around the base as the flooring standard requires.
+
+### Where lockers are set directly on the finished floor, the bottom edge of the body shall be sealed to the floor with a sealant compatible with both the floor finish and the locker coating.
+
+## End Panels, Fillers, and Recess Trim {toc}
+
+### Trim is what makes a run of lockers read as built-in rather than as furniture pushed against a wall, and it also closes the gaps in which debris collects and behind which small items disappear. {note}
+
+### Filler and trim quantities cannot be finalized from the contract drawings, because the gap between the last locker and the wall is a field dimension. {note}
+
+### The closure trim furnished shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Closure Trim Furnished
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Finished end panels at exposed locker ends"
+ - "Finished back panels at exposed locker backs"
+ - "Filler panels at walls, columns, and obstructions"
+ - "Recess trim at banks recessed into a wall or soffit"
+ - "Continuous base trim at exposed ends"
+ - "Boxed-end trim at the end of a back-to-back run"
+default:
+ - "Finished end panels at exposed locker ends"
+ - "Filler panels at walls, columns, and obstructions"
+```
+
+### End panels, filler panels, and recess trim shall be formed from sheet of the same substrate and finish as the locker bodies they adjoin.
+
+### Filler panels shall be field-cut to the measured gap and shall be attached with concealed or tamper-resistant fasteners.
+
+### The Contractor shall confirm filler and trim quantities against field dimensions before fabrication and shall report any additional trim required to the Architect in writing.
+
+# Interior Equipment and Identification {toc}
+
+## What goes inside the locker is set by what is stored: a coat needs a hook or a rod at full height, gym shoes need a raised shelf that keeps them off a wet bottom pan, and a phone or a wallet needs a shelf within sight. {note}
+
+## The interior equipment furnished shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Interior Equipment Furnished
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Single-prong wall hooks"
+ - "Double-prong ceiling hooks"
+ - "Full-width coat rod"
+ - "Top shelf"
+ - "Bottom or footwear shelf"
+ - "Intermediate adjustable shelf"
+ - "Mirror mounted to the door interior"
+ - "Partition or divider within the opening"
+ - "Purse or valuables shelf"
+default:
+ - "Single-prong wall hooks"
+ - "Double-prong ceiling hooks"
+ - "Top shelf"
+```
+
+## Hooks shall be attached to the locker body with fasteners engaging a reinforced or doubled thickness of metal, and shall not be attached through a single thickness of body sheet alone.
+
+## Shelves shall be formed with turned edges on all exposed sides.
+
+## The locker identification method shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Identification
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Riveted metal number plates"
+ - "Applied vinyl or decal numbers"
+ - "Engraved or etched numbers in the door"
+ - "No locker identification"
+default: "Riveted metal number plates"
+```
+
+## Number plates shall be applied at the same location on every door within an installation.
+
+## The numbering sequence shall be established by the Owner's locker-assignment scheme, and the Contractor shall obtain that sequence in writing before the number plates are ordered.
+
+# Locker Room Benches {toc}
+
+## Benches furnished with a locker installation are set out from the locker face far enough to leave a circulation aisle, which makes their spacing a layout decision rather than a product decision. {note}
+
+## Where a bench is fixed to the floor on pedestals it cannot be moved to block an accessible route or a door swing, and where it is freestanding it can be relocated by the Owner but also displaced into a clearance. {note}
+
+## The bench type furnished under this standard shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Locker Room Bench Type
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Fixed benches on floor-anchored pedestals"
+ - "Freestanding portable benches"
+ - "Benches not furnished under this standard"
+```
+
+## The bench top material shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Bench Top Material
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Laminated hardwood"
+ - "Solid plastic, HDPE"
+ - "Phenolic composite"
+ - "Powder-coated steel"
+ - "Not applicable, benches not furnished"
+```
+
+## Bench lengths, locations, and the clear aisle dimension between the bench and the locker face shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the locker plans]].
+
+## Bench pedestals shall be anchored to the structural floor slab and shall not rely on the finished flooring for attachment.
+
+## Exposed bench top edges and corners shall be eased, and fasteners shall be countersunk flush or concealed.
+
+# Accessible Lockers {toc}
+
+## Quantity and Distribution {toc}
+
+### Where lockers are provided, the 2010 ADA Standards Section 225.2.1 and ICC A117.1 require that at least 5 percent, and no fewer than one, of each type of locker comply with the storage provisions of Section 811. {note}
+
+### "Type" means a functional class of locker rather than a size variant, so full-height garment lockers and box lockers are separate types and each carries its own accessible share. {note}
+
+### Accessible lockers shall be provided in accordance with the adopted accessibility standard.
+
+### The percentage of each locker type provided as accessible shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Accessible Lockers Provided per Locker Type
+type: range
+unit: '%'
+min: 5
+max: 100
+step: 1
+default: 5
+```
+
+### Not fewer than one locker of each type shall be accessible, regardless of the percentage calculated for that type.
+
+### Accessible lockers shall be distributed among the locker types and locations rather than grouped into a single bank, unless the drawings indicate a specific grouped location.
+
+### The location and identification of each accessible locker shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the locker plans]].
+
+## Reach Range and Operable Parts {toc}
+
+### The defining requirement for an accessible locker is that both the usable storage and every part the user must operate fall within an unobstructed reach range, which in practice places accessible lockers in a single tier or in the lower tier of a multi-tier bank. {note}
+
+### Where a locker's operable parts sit within the reach range but the clear floor space in front of it is taken by a bench, an open door swing, or a projecting trim piece, the locker does not comply even though the locker itself is correct. {note}
+
+### The usable storage in an accessible locker shall be within an unobstructed forward or side reach range of 15 in. minimum to 48 in. maximum above the finished floor.
+
+### Every operable part of an accessible locker, including the handle, the latch, the lock, and any keypad or reader, shall be located within 15 in. minimum to 48 in. maximum above the finished floor.
+
+### Every operable part of an accessible locker shall be operable with one hand, without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist, and with an operating force of not more than 5 lbf.
+
+### A clear floor space complying with the adopted accessibility standard shall be provided at each accessible locker, and shall be connected to an accessible route.
+
+### The Contractor shall verify at each accessible locker, after installation and adjustment, that the operable parts fall within the reach range and that the clear floor space is unobstructed.
+
+### The lock furnished on accessible lockers shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Accessible Locker Lock
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Same lock as the typical locker"
+ - "Built-in combination lock with an oversized dial"
+ - "Push-button combination lock"
+ - "Electronic keypad lock"
+ - "Electronic credential lock reading a card or fob"
+ - "Lever-operated cam lock"
+```
+
+### Where the lock selected for the typical lockers requires pinching, tight grasping, or twisting of the wrist to operate, a different lock meeting the operable-parts requirements shall be furnished on the accessible lockers.
+
+## Accessible Benches {toc}
+
+### Where benches are provided in a locker room, at least one bench shall comply with the bench provisions of the adopted accessibility standard for seat height, seat depth, back support, and clear floor space.
+
+### The accessible bench and its clear floor space shall be located so that the clearance is not reduced by a locker bank, an open locker door, or a fixed pedestal.
+
+# Fabrication {toc}
+
+## Lockers shall be fabricated to the dimensions and configuration shown on the shop drawings returned for fabrication.
+
+## Sheared, formed, and punched edges within reach of a user, including louver, perforation, and mesh edges, shall be free of burrs and sharp edges.
+
+## Body panels, doors, and frames shall be formed square so that an assembled bank stands plumb without racking the frames into alignment.
+
+## Doors shall be fabricated so that the gap between the door edge and the frame is uniform along the full height of the opening.
+
+## Locker components shall be identified by the manufacturer with a mark that ties each component to its location on the shop drawings, and the mark shall be concealed after assembly.
+
+# Delivery, Storage, and Handling {toc}
+
+## A locker damaged before installation cannot be repaired to match, because the baked finish cannot be reproduced in the field, so handling damage becomes a replacement and a schedule delay rather than a touch-up. {note}
+
+## Lockers shall be delivered in the manufacturer's packaging, with protective wrapping on finished surfaces intact.
+
+## Lockers shall be stored inside a weathertight, conditioned space, off the floor, and shall not be stored where condensation forms on the packaging.
+
+## Lockers shall not be delivered to the site until the space that receives them is enclosed, the wet trades are complete, and the space is at the temperature and humidity at which it will be occupied.
+
+## Damaged components shall be replaced rather than field-repaired, except that minor coating damage not visible in the installed position may be touched up with the manufacturer's matching coating.
+
+## The Contractor shall bear the cost of replacing components damaged in delivery, storage, or handling.
+
+# Installation {toc}
+
+## Blocking and Substrate Preparation {toc}
+
+### Lockers anchored to gypsum board without solid blocking pull out under normal use, and the failure appears months after acceptance when the fastener finally works through the board face. {note}
+
+### The Contractor shall verify, before installation begins, that solid in-wall blocking has been installed at every location where a locker, a trim piece, or a bench anchors to a wall.
+
+### Where blocking is missing or mislocated, the Contractor shall notify the Architect in writing before proceeding and shall not proceed with wall anchorage at that location.
+
+### Lockers, trim, and benches shall not be anchored to gypsum board alone.
+
+### The floor at each locker location shall be verified level within the tolerance the manufacturer requires for the base condition specified, and shall be shimmed rather than ground where it is out of tolerance.
+
+## Setting and Anchorage {toc}
+
+### The anchorage condition shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Anchorage Condition
+type: select
+drawing_ref: "as indicated on the locker plans and elevations"
+options:
+ - "Floor-anchored with backs anchored to the wall"
+ - "Floor-anchored with tops anchored to the wall"
+ - "Back-to-back freestanding, floor-anchored"
+ - "Island run, floor-anchored and braced at both ends"
+ - "Recessed into a wall opening, anchored to the surrounding construction"
+default: deferred
+```
+
+### Lockers shall be set level and plumb, shimmed as required at the base, and shall not be forced into alignment by tightening the bank fasteners.
+
+### Adjoining lockers shall be bolted together into continuous runs before the run is anchored to the structure.
+
+### Anchors shall be selected for the substrate they engage, using expansion or screw anchors in concrete, anchors rated for the unit in masonry, and through-bolts or lag screws into solid blocking in stud walls.
+
+### Anchorage hardware installed in a natatorium, a wash-down area, or an exterior-adjacent location shall be stainless steel or shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153/A153M.
+
+### Every locker bank shall be anchored so that it cannot tip when a fully extended door is loaded or a user leans on an open door.
+
+### Anchorage shall not be made through the finished flooring in a manner that breaches a waterproof membrane, and where a membrane is present the anchorage method shall be coordinated with the waterproofing trade before installation.
+
+## Seismic Restraint {toc}
+
+### A tall locker bank is a nonstructural component whose overturning is governed by its height, weight, and the seismic design category of the project rather than by anything about the locker product itself. {note}
+
+### The component importance factor used to design the locker anchorage shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Component Importance Factor, ASCE/SEI 7
+type: range
+min: 1.0
+max: 1.5
+setpoints: [1.0, 1.5]
+```
+
+### Where the seismic design category of the project requires anchorage of nonstructural components, locker banks shall be anchored to resist the seismic design forces determined in accordance with ASCE/SEI 7, Chapter 13.
+
+### Seismic anchorage shall be installed in accordance with calculations and details signed and sealed by an engineer licensed in the jurisdiction of the project.
+
+### Sheet-metal screws driven into unbraced steel studs shall not be accepted as satisfying a seismic anchorage requirement.
+
+### Where the Contractor and the Architect disagree whether a given bank falls within the seismic anchorage requirement, the Structural Engineer of Record shall make the initial determination.
+
+## Adjustment, Cleaning, and Protection {toc}
+
+### The Contractor shall adjust every door after installation so that it swings freely, closes without binding, and latches fully with the lock engaging at full throw.
+
+### The Contractor shall install all trim, closures, number plates, and interior equipment after the banks are anchored and adjusted.
+
+### The Contractor shall clean all exposed surfaces using a method and an agent the manufacturer's care instructions permit.
+
+### Protective coverings shall remain in place until adjustment and cleaning are complete, and shall be removed without leaving adhesive residue on the finish.
+
+### Doors that bind, latches that do not engage at full throw, and locks that do not operate shall be corrected by the Contractor before substantial completion.
+
+### Components with finish damage visible in the installed position, and components showing corrosion, shall be replaced at the Contractor's cost.
+
+# Warranty {toc}
+
+## A locker warranty that runs from the date of shipment rather than from substantial completion can be substantially expired before the building is occupied, so the start date is as much a part of the selection as the duration. {note}
+
+## The manufacturer warranty period, measured from substantial completion, shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Manufacturer Warranty Period
+type: range
+unit: yr
+min: 1
+max: 25
+setpoints: [1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 25]
+```
+
+## The manufacturer shall warrant the lockers against defects in materials and workmanship, including finish adhesion, door and latch operation, hinge attachment, and structural integrity of the body and frame, for the specified period measured from the date of substantial completion.
+
+## Where the manufacturer offers a longer or lifetime limited warranty on the construction method specified, that warranty shall be furnished in addition to the period specified, and its terms and exclusions shall be submitted at closeout.
+
+## Locks, and for electronic locks the controllers, keypads, and readers, shall be warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for not less than 2 years from the date of substantial completion.
+
+## The Contractor installation warranty period, measured from substantial completion, shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Contractor Installation Warranty Period
+type: range
+unit: yr
+min: 1
+max: 5
+setpoints: [1, 2, 3, 5]
+default: 1
+```
+
+## The Contractor shall warrant the installation, including level and plumb setting, anchorage, seismic restraint, door alignment, and the reach-range and operable-parts compliance of the accessible lockers, for the specified period.
+
+## Deficiencies attributable to installation workmanship shall be corrected by the Contractor at no cost to the Owner, including the cost of removing and reinstalling adjacent work required to reach the deficiency.
+
+## Where a warranted component is repaired or replaced, the repaired or replaced component shall carry a warranty running for the full original period from the date of the repair, or for the remainder of the original period, whichever ends later.
+
+## The warranty shall not cover damage from use beyond the service exposure indicated in the datasheet, from cleaning agents the manufacturer's care instructions exclude, or from modification of the locker without the manufacturer's written authorization.
+
+## Where the parties disagree whether an observed condition is a warranted defect or damage from use, the Architect shall make the initial determination.
+
+# Spare Parts {toc}
+
+## Attic stock exists because a locker discontinued three years after installation leaves the Owner replacing a whole bank to repair one door. {note}
+
+## The attic stock furnished to the Owner shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Attic Stock Furnished
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Spare locks of each installed type"
+ - "Spare number plates"
+ - "Touch-up coating of each installed color"
+ - "Spare hooks and shelves"
+ - "Spare doors of each installed size"
+ - "Spare filler and trim stock"
+ - "No attic stock required"
+default:
+ - "Spare locks of each installed type"
+ - "Touch-up coating of each installed color"
+```
+
+## The quantity of spare locks furnished, expressed as a percentage of the installed lock quantity of each type, shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Spare Locks Furnished per Installed Type
+type: range
+unit: '%'
+min: 0
+max: 10
+step: 1
+```
+
+## Attic stock shall be delivered in labeled cartons identifying the component, the finish color, and the locker type it fits.
+
+## Attic stock shall be delivered to the location the Owner designates and shall be receipted by the Owner's representative.
