−title: Toilet and Bath Accessories
−category: Architectural / Specialties
−toc_depth: 3
−description: >
− When to use: Commercial, institutional, and light-industrial toilet rooms and bathing facilities requiring furnished and installed washroom accessories — grab bars, mirrors, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, sanitary-napkin dispensers and disposals, waste receptacles, toilet-paper holders, seat-cover dispensers, baby-changing stations, robe hooks, and shelves. Covers material and finish requirements, recessed/semi-recessed/surface mounting, accessibility mounting heights and reach ranges, grab bar structural requirements, fire-rated wall coordination, and blocking/backing coordination.
− Not intended for: Toilet compartments and urinal screens (see [[sync/toilet-compartments]]); plumbing fixtures, faucets, flush valves, and electric hand dryers powered as plumbing or electrical work (see the plumbing fixtures and electrical standards); residential dwelling-unit bathroom accessories not subject to commercial accessibility requirements; locker room benches and athletic equipment; fire extinguisher cabinets and other specialty cabinets unrelated to washroom function; medical and healthcare-specific accessories (IV tracks, patient-assist rails) governed by clinical standards.
−---
−
−# Scope {toc}
−
−## This standard covers the furnishing and installation of toilet and bath accessories in commercial, institutional, and light-industrial buildings. {note}
−## The scope includes washroom accessories of all mounting types — surface-mounted, recessed, and semi-recessed — and the structural backing, blocking, and fire-rated wall coordination required to support them. {note}
−
−## Accessory types, quantities, locations, and mounting heights for each toilet room shall be as indicated on the contract drawings and accessory schedule.
−
−## This standard establishes the minimum material, finish, accessibility, structural, and installation requirements that apply to all of those conditions.
−
−## Toilet accessories are deceptively simple products that carry disproportionate compliance risk — a misplaced grab bar, a mirror mounted an inch too high, a dispenser outside the reach range, or a recessed unit that breaches a fire-rated wall without an approved firestop are among the most common accessibility and life-safety deficiencies found at building inspection, and the wall blocking that supports a 250 lbf grab bar must be installed during rough framing, long before the accessory itself arrives. {note}
−
−## The Contractor shall coordinate accessory locations, blocking, and fire-rated wall penetrations early.
−
−## The Contractor shall treat the accessory and its backing as a single system.
−
−## The Contractor shall verify every accessible-fixture mounting dimension against the adopted accessibility standard before installation.
−
−## This work shall be coordinated with [[sync/toilet-compartments]] for partition-mounted accessories and grab bars anchored to pilasters or compartment walls, with [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]] for in-wall blocking, backing plates, and recessed-unit framing, and with [[sync/firestopping]] where recessed accessories penetrate fire-resistance-rated walls.
−
−# Referenced Standards {toc}
−
−## Materials, fabrication, and installation shall comply with the latest adopted edition of the referenced standards.
−
−## Where the contract documents or the adopted building and accessibility codes impose more stringent requirements than a referenced standard, the more stringent requirement shall govern.
−
−## The Contractor shall resolve conflicts in writing with the Architect before proceeding.
−

−type: checkbox
−options:
− - "Complete accessory schedule by toilet room"
− - "Product data for each accessory type"
− - "Mounting height and blocking coordination drawings"
− - "Fire-rated penetration firestop documentation (where applicable)"
− - "Finish samples"
−default: "Complete accessory schedule by toilet room"
−```
−### Coordinate the accessory submittal with the toilet compartment submittal and the gypsum board / blocking submittal so that mounting heights, backing locations, and fire-rated wall penetrations are reconciled before any product is ordered and before rough framing is closed. {note}
−
−- **Accessory Schedule:** A complete schedule listing every accessory by type and by toilet room, including the accessory mark or item designation, mounting type (surface, recessed, semi-recessed), material and finish, mounting height to the controlling reference point, and quantity, cross-referenced to the floor plans and interior elevations

−- Warranty documentation for accessories, mirrors, and grab bars
−- Maintenance data for serviceable accessories, including dispenser refill procedures and any battery replacement for automatic-sensor dispensers
−
−```datasheet
−label: Closeout Submittals Required
−type: checkbox
−options:
− - "Final as-built accessory schedule"
− - "Accessory keys with key count and keying identification"
− - "Warranty documentation"
− - "Maintenance data for serviceable accessories"
−default: "Final as-built accessory schedule"
−```
−
−# Quality Assurance {toc}
−
−## Single-Source Responsibility {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Single-Source Accessory Supply
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Single manufacturer for all accessories except grab bars and baby-changing stations"
− - "Single manufacturer for all accessories including grab bars"
− - "Multiple manufacturers permitted — match finish across all accessories"
−default: "Single manufacturer for all accessories except grab bars and baby-changing stations"
−```
−
−### Accessories should be furnished from a single manufacturer to the greatest extent practical so that finish, material, and visual appearance are consistent within each toilet room and across the building.
−
−### Grab bars and baby-changing stations may be excepted from single-source supply provided their finish is coordinated to match the balance of the accessories.
−
−### Where multiple manufacturers are used, the Contractor shall confirm that the satin stainless finish is visually consistent across all products.
−
−## Mounting Height Verification {toc}
−
−### The Contractor shall verify, before installation, that the mounting height of every accessory serving an accessible fixture complies with ICC A117.1-2017 and the ADA 2010 Standards for the controlling reference point of that accessory.
−
−### The Contractor shall not rely on standard rough-in heights alone but shall confirm each dimension against the adopted accessibility standard and the accessory schedule.
−
−### Accessory mounting is one of the most frequently cited accessibility deficiencies. {note}
−
−## Accessibility Standard Governing the Project {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Governing Accessibility Standard
−type: select
−options:
− - "ICC A117.1-2017 and ADA 2010 — both apply, more stringent governs"
− - "ICC A117.1-2017 only (per adopted building code)"
− - "ADA 2010 Standards only"
−drawing_ref: "accessibility drawings and project requirements"
−default: "ICC A117.1-2017 and ADA 2010 — both apply, more stringent governs"
−```
−
−### Most commercial projects must satisfy both the federal ADA 2010 Standards and the locally adopted accessibility provisions of ICC A117.1, which are largely harmonized but differ in some dimensions. {note}
−
−### Where the two standards differ, the more stringent requirement shall govern unless the Authority Having Jurisdiction directs otherwise.
−
−### The Architect shall identify the governing standard and the accessible fixtures on the drawings.
−
−# Materials and Finishes {toc}
−
−## Primary Material — Stainless Steel {toc}
−
−### The dominant material for commercial toilet accessories is austenitic stainless steel because it resists the corrosion, abrasion, cleaning chemicals, and vandalism encountered in public washrooms. {note}
−
−### Type 304 stainless steel conforming to ASTM A666 shall be the standard material for accessory bodies, doors, flanges, and exposed surfaces.
−
−```datasheet
−label: Accessory Body Material
−type: select
−options:
− - "Type 304 stainless steel (ASTM A666) — standard commercial"
− - "Type 316 stainless steel — coastal, high-chloride, or marine environments"
− - "Chrome-plated brass or zinc — limited decorative or budget applications"
− - "Molded plastic / polymer — budget or specific specialty units"
−default: "Type 304 stainless steel (ASTM A666) — standard commercial"
−```
−
−### Type 316 stainless steel, which contains molybdenum for greater chloride resistance, should be specified for coastal locations, natatoriums, and other high-chloride or aggressively corrosive environments where Type 304 may exhibit pitting.
−
−### Chrome-plated brass and zinc are limited to decorative applications or budget projects and do not match the durability of stainless steel in high-traffic public washrooms. {note}
−
−### Molded polymer units are used for specific products (such as some seat-cover dispensers and waste receptacle liners) but should not be the default body material in public installations subject to vandalism.
−
−## Stainless Steel Finish {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Stainless Steel Finish
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Satin (No. 4 brushed) — standard, hides fingerprints and minor scratches"
− - "Bright polished (No. 8 mirror) — decorative, shows fingerprints and wear"
− - "Matte black or color-coated stainless — designer specification"
−default: "Satin (No. 4 brushed) — standard, hides fingerprints and minor scratches"
−```
−
−### A satin (No. 4 brushed) finish shall be the standard for commercial toilet accessories because it conceals fingerprints, water spotting, and minor surface scratches and requires less maintenance over the life of the installation.
−
−### Bright polished (No. 8 mirror) finish is a decorative selection used where a higher-end appearance is desired, but it shows wear and fingerprints readily and is not recommended for high-traffic public restrooms.
−
−### Color-coated and matte black stainless finishes are designer selections that should be confirmed for availability and durability of the coating before specification.
−
−## Sheet Gauge {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Stainless Steel Sheet Gauge — Exposed Bodies and Doors
−type: select
−options:
− - "22 gauge — light-duty surface units (dispensers, holders)"
− - "20 gauge — standard exposed bodies and flanges"
− - "18 gauge — doors, shelves, and high-abuse surfaces"
− - "16 gauge — heavy-duty or vandal-resistant applications"
−default: "20 gauge — standard exposed bodies and flanges"
−```
−
−### The exposed bodies, flanges, and cover plates of standard accessories shall be fabricated from not less than 20 gauge stainless steel.
−
−### Doors, shelves, and surfaces subject to bending or abuse shall be not less than 18 gauge.
−
−### Heavy-duty or vandal-resistant installations (detention-adjacent, high-abuse public facilities, transit) shall use 16 gauge or thicker as scheduled.
−
−## Mirror Glass {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Mirror Glass Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Silvered float glass mirror (ASTM C1503), 1/4 in., framed in stainless"
− - "No. 8 polished stainless steel mirror — vandal-resistant, no glass"
− - "Laminated safety mirror glass — high-occupancy or impact-prone areas"
−default: "Silvered float glass mirror (ASTM C1503), 1/4 in., framed in stainless"
−```
−
−### Standard washroom mirrors shall be 1/4 in. silvered float glass conforming to ASTM C1503, set in a stainless steel channel frame with a galvanized steel back and a protective backing coating to resist corrosion of the silvering at the edges.
−
−### Polished stainless steel mirrors (No. 8 finish, no glass) shall be specified where vandal resistance or impact safety is the priority, such as detention-adjacent toilet rooms or facilities with a history of glass breakage.
−
−### Laminated safety mirror glass should be considered in high-occupancy or impact-prone areas where a framed glass mirror is desired but breakage risk is elevated.
−
−## Vandal Resistance {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Vandal-Resistant (Security) Construction
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Standard commercial construction"
− - "Vandal-resistant — heavy gauge, tamper-resistant fasteners, theft-resistant locks"
−default: "Standard commercial construction"
−```
−
−### Vandal-resistant construction — heavier gauge bodies, security (tamper-resistant) fasteners, concealed mounting, and theft-resistant tumbler locks on dispensers — shall be specified for public facilities, schools, transit stations, parks, and any location with a history of vandalism.
−
−### Standard commercial construction is appropriate for offices, healthcare, and other controlled-access environments.
−
−# Accessory Schedule by Type {toc}
−
−## The accessory schedule and the interior elevations determine which accessories are furnished in each toilet room and where they are located. {note}
−## The selections below establish the type and configuration of each accessory category where it occurs. {note}
−
−## Accessory types, quantities, and locations shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the accessory schedule and interior elevations]].
−
−## Mounting Type {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Mounting Type — General
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Surface-mounted — fastened to the finished wall face"
− - "Recessed — set into a wall opening, flange flush with wall"
− - "Semi-recessed — partially recessed, body projects from wall"
−default: "Surface-mounted — fastened to the finished wall face"
−```
−
−### Surface-mounted accessories are the default and are appropriate for most applications. {note}
−
−### Recessed accessories provide a cleaner appearance and reduce protrusion into the room but require a wall opening, framing coordination, and — in fire-rated and plumbing walls — additional coordination as described below. {note}
−
−### Semi-recessed units are a compromise used where the wall depth is insufficient for full recessing but a reduced projection is desired. {note}
−
−### The mounting type shall be coordinated with the wall construction and confirmed before rough framing is closed, because recessed and semi-recessed units cannot be accommodated after the wall is finished without demolition.
−
−## Grab Bars {toc}
−
−### Grab bars shall conform to ASTM F446 and shall be Type 304 stainless steel with a peened (slip-resistant) or satin gripping surface.
−
−### Grab bar location, length, and configuration at each accessible water closet and bathing fixture shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the accessibility-compliant interior elevations]] and shall comply with ICC A117.1-2017 Section 604.5.
−
−### Grab Bar Outside Diameter {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Grab Bar Outside Diameter
−type: range
−unit: in
−options:
− min: 1.25
− max: 2.0
− setpoints: [1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0]
−default: 1.5
−```
−
−#### The outside diameter of a circular grab bar shall be 1-1/4 in. minimum and 2 in. maximum per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 609.2.1; a 1-1/2 in. diameter is the most common commercial selection and is the default.
−
−#### Non-circular grab bars shall comply with the perimeter dimension and cross-section limits of Section 609.2.2.
−
−### Grab Bar Clearance from Wall {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Grab Bar Clearance from Wall
−type: range
−unit: in
−options:
− min: 1.5
− max: 2.0
− setpoints: [1.5, 1.75, 2.0]
−default: 1.5
−```
−
−#### The clearance between a grab bar and the wall behind it shall be 1-1/2 in. per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 609.3.
−
−#### This clearance is a fixed accessibility requirement, not a tolerance — a clearance smaller than 1-1/2 in. traps the forearm, and a larger clearance allows the arm to slip behind the bar. {note}
−
−#### The grab bar mounting brackets shall hold the bar at exactly this clearance.
−
−### Grab Bar Structural Load Resistance {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Grab Bar Structural Load Resistance
−type: radio
−unit: lbf
−options:
− - "250 lbf minimum in any direction (ICC A117.1 609.8 / ASTM F446)"
− - "Higher — as required by drawings for bariatric or specialty fixtures"
−default: "250 lbf minimum in any direction (ICC A117.1 609.8 / ASTM F446)"
−```
−
−#### The grab bar, its mounting brackets, the fasteners, and the wall backing shall together resist a concentrated load of 250 lbf applied in any direction at any point on the bar, per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 609.8 and ASTM F446.
−
−#### A grab bar fastened only into gypsum board or into a wall anchor without solid backing will not develop the required 250 lbf resistance regardless of the bar's own strength; the wall blocking, the backing plate, and the fasteners into solid backing are what carry the load. {note}
−
−#### The required backing shall be installed during rough framing as described in the Installation section.
−
−### Grab Bar Mounting Height — Horizontal Bars at Water Closet {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Grab Bar Mounting Height — Horizontal Bars at Water Closet
−type: range
−unit: in AFF
−options:
− min: 33
− max: 36
− setpoints: [33, 34, 35, 36]
−default: 33
−```
−
−#### Horizontal grab bars at a water closet shall be mounted with the top of the gripping surface 33 in. to 36 in. above the finished floor per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 604.5, and all horizontal bars in a given toilet room should be mounted at a consistent height within this range.
−
−#### The rear-wall grab bar shall be 36 in. long minimum, and the side-wall grab bar shall be 42 in. long minimum, located 12 in. maximum from the rear wall, per Sections 604.5.1 and 604.5.2.
−
−#### Final lengths and positions shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the interior elevations]].
−
−### Vertical Grab Bar at Side Wall {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Vertical Grab Bar Required (Side Wall)
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Yes — 18 in. minimum vertical bar, bottom 39 in.–41 in. AFF (ICC A117.1-2017)"
− - "No — not required by governing standard"
−default: "Yes — 18 in. minimum vertical bar, bottom 39 in.–41 in. AFF (ICC A117.1-2017)"
−```
−
−#### ICC A117.1-2017 Section 604.5.1 requires a vertical grab bar 18 in. minimum in length on the side wall, mounted above the horizontal side bar with the bottom of the bar 39 in. to 41 in. above the finished floor.
−
−#### The vertical bar aids ambulatory users transitioning to and from a standing position and is required for new construction under the 2017 edition even though it is not required by the ADA 2010 Standards. {note}
−
−#### Where both standards apply, the vertical bar shall be provided.
−
−## Mirrors {toc}
−
−### Mirror size, quantity, and location shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the interior elevations]].
−
−### Mirrors at accessible lavatories shall be mounted in compliance with the reflecting-surface height requirement below.
−
−### Mirror Bottom Edge Height — Accessible Lavatory {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Mirror Bottom Edge Height — Accessible Lavatory
−type: range
−unit: in AFF
−options:
− min: 35
− max: 40
− setpoints: [35, 38, 40]
−default: 40
−```
−
−#### At an accessible lavatory or countertop, the bottom edge of the reflecting surface of a mirror shall be 40 in. maximum above the finished floor per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 603.3.
−
−#### Where a full-length mirror or a mirror not located above a lavatory is provided, the bottom edge of the reflecting surface shall be 35 in. maximum above the floor.
−
−#### The 40 in. dimension is measured to the reflecting surface, not to the frame; the Contractor shall account for the frame when setting the mounting height.
−
−## Paper Towel Dispensers and Combination Units {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Paper Towel Dispenser Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Surface-mounted folded/roll towel dispenser"
− - "Recessed towel dispenser"
− - "Recessed combination towel dispenser / waste receptacle"
− - "Automatic (sensor) roll towel dispenser"
− - "Not provided — electric hand dryer specified instead"
−default: "Recessed combination towel dispenser / waste receptacle"
−```
−
−### The recessed combination towel dispenser and waste receptacle is the most common configuration in commercial washrooms because it consolidates two functions in one recessed unit and keeps the waste receptacle off the floor. {note}
−
−### Where hand drying is provided by electric hand dryers, paper towel dispensers may be omitted, and the Architect shall confirm the hand-drying method.
−
−### Automatic sensor dispensers reduce touch points and waste and are common in healthcare and high-traffic facilities. {note}
−
−### Towel Dispenser Operable Part Height {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Towel Dispenser Operable Part Height
−type: range
−unit: in AFF
−options:
− min: 15
− max: 48
− setpoints: [40, 42, 48]
−default: 40
−```
−
−#### The operable part (the dispensing point) of a paper towel dispenser serving an accessible route shall be located within the reach range of 15 in. minimum to 48 in. maximum above the finished floor per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 308, and the dispenser shall be reachable from the clear floor space at the accessible lavatory.
−
−#### A dispensing height of approximately 40 in. is the practical commercial default that serves both standing and seated users. {note}
−
−#### The dispenser shall not be located such that it forces a reach over an obstruction beyond the allowable reach depth.
−
−## Soap Dispensers {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Soap Dispenser Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Surface-mounted manual soap dispenser"
− - "Deck-mounted (lavatory or counter) soap dispenser"
− - "Automatic (sensor) soap dispenser"
− - "Recessed soap dispenser"
−default: "Surface-mounted manual soap dispenser"
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Soap Dispenser Operable Part Height
−type: range
−unit: in AFF
−options:
− min: 15
− max: 48
− setpoints: [40, 44, 48]
−default: 44
−```
−
−### The operable part of a soap dispenser serving an accessible lavatory shall be within the reach range of 15 in. to 48 in. above the finished floor and within the allowable reach depth from the accessible clear floor space, per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 308.
−
−### Where the dispenser is mounted on the wall behind the lavatory, the Contractor shall confirm the obstructed reach geometry and shall not assume the unobstructed 48 in. maximum applies where the user must reach over the lavatory.
−
−## Sanitary-Napkin Dispensers and Disposals {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Sanitary-Napkin Dispenser Required
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Yes — vending (coin/free) sanitary-napkin dispenser"
− - "No — disposal only"
−default: "No — disposal only"
−```
−
−```datasheet
−label: Sanitary-Napkin Disposal Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Surface-mounted disposal at each accessible and standard compartment"
− - "Recessed disposal"
− - "Combination napkin disposal integrated with toilet-paper holder"
− - "Partition-mounted disposal (between compartments)"
−default: "Surface-mounted disposal at each accessible and standard compartment"
−```
−
−### A sanitary-napkin disposal shall be provided in every toilet compartment in a women's or unisex toilet room, including each accessible compartment.
−
−### The disposal at an accessible compartment shall be positioned so that its operable part is within reach from the accessible water closet clear floor space and does not obstruct the required clear floor space or the grab bars.
−
−### The operable part shall be within the reach range of 15 in. to 48 in. above the finished floor.
−
−## Waste Receptacles {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Waste Receptacle Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Recessed (integral with towel dispenser) waste receptacle"
− - "Surface-mounted waste receptacle"
− - "Semi-recessed waste receptacle"
− - "Free-standing receptacle (not in this scope)"
−default: "Recessed (integral with towel dispenser) waste receptacle"
−```
−
−### Wall-mounted or recessed waste receptacles are preferred over free-standing receptacles in accessible toilet rooms because a free-standing receptacle is a movable obstruction that can be placed within the required clear floor space or maneuvering clearance. {note}
−
−### Where a recessed combination towel-dispenser/receptacle is used, a separate waste receptacle may not be required.
−
−### Receptacle capacity shall be appropriate for the fixture count and traffic of the toilet room.
−
−## Toilet-Paper Holders {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Toilet-Paper Holder Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Surface-mounted double-roll holder"
− - "Recessed double-roll holder"
− - "Partition-mounted holder (between compartments)"
− - "Multi-roll / jumbo-roll dispenser"
− - "Combination holder with sanitary-napkin disposal"
−default: "Surface-mounted double-roll holder"
−```
−
−### Toilet-Paper Dispenser Position from Water Closet — Accessible {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Toilet-Paper Dispenser Position from Water Closet — Accessible
−type: range
−unit: in
−options:
− min: 7
− max: 9
− setpoints: [7, 8, 9]
−default: 7
−```
−
−#### At an accessible water closet, the toilet-paper dispenser shall be located 7 in. minimum and 9 in. maximum in front of the water closet, measured to the centerline of the dispenser, per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 604.7.
−
−#### The outlet of the dispenser shall be 15 in. minimum and 48 in. maximum above the finished floor, and the dispenser shall not be located behind the side grab bar in a way that obstructs the bar or interferes with reach.
−
−#### Dispensers that control delivery (those that do not allow continuous paper flow) are not permitted at accessible water closets; the dispenser shall allow continuous paper delivery.
−
−## Seat-Cover Dispensers {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Toilet Seat-Cover Dispenser Required
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Yes — one per compartment"
− - "Yes — combination seat-cover / toilet-paper unit"
− - "No"
−default: "No"
−```
−
−### Where seat-cover dispensers are provided, the operable part shall be within the reach range of 15 in. to 48 in. above the finished floor at accessible compartments and shall be positioned so as not to obstruct the clear floor space or grab bars.
−
−## Baby-Changing Stations {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Baby-Changing Station Required
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Yes — horizontal fold-down changing station"
− - "Yes — vertical fold-down changing station"
− - "No"
−default: "No"
−```
−
−### Baby-changing stations (diaper-changing tables) for commercial and public installation shall comply with ASTM F2285, the consumer safety performance specification for diaper changing tables for commercial use.
−
−### ASTM F2388 governs domestic-use products and applies to consumer changing products, not to fixed commercial restroom units; it is referenced here only to distinguish the two. {note}
−
−### The station shall include an integral child-restraint strap and shall be labeled with weight capacity and safe-use instructions per ASTM F2285.
−
−### Baby-Changing Station Open-Surface Height {toc}

−default: 34
−```
−
−#### Where a baby-changing station is located on an accessible route, the changing surface in the open (deployed) position shall be a usable height, and the operable parts (the latch and release used to lower and raise the unit) shall be within the reach range of 15 in. to 48 in. above the finished floor.
−
−#### When folded closed, the station shall not project from the wall more than 4 in. into the circulation path between 27 in. and 80 in. above the floor, to comply with the protruding-object limits of ICC A117.1-2017 Section 307.
−
−#### Where a unit projects more than 4 in. in the closed position, it shall be recessed or located outside the accessible circulation path.
−
−## Robe Hooks and Coat Hooks {toc}
−

−```
−
−#### A coat hook within an accessible toilet compartment shall be mounted no higher than 48 in. above the finished floor so that it is within the reach range per ICC A117.1-2017 Section 308.
−
−#### Coat hooks projecting from the wall shall not project more than 4 in. into the circulation path between 27 in. and 80 in. above the floor per the protruding-object limits of Section 307.
−
−#### Hooks that project farther shall be located outside the accessible circulation path or recessed.
−
−## Shelves and Utility Accessories {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Shelf Required
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Yes — stainless steel utility shelf"
− - "No"
−default: "No"
−```
−
−### Where shelves are provided, they shall be Type 304 stainless steel, fabricated of not less than 18 gauge with formed and returned edges to remove sharp corners, and securely anchored to wall backing.
−
−### A shelf shall not project more than 4 in. into the accessible circulation path where it is located between 27 in. and 80 in. above the floor unless it is outside that path.
−
−# Accessibility and Mounting {toc}
−
−## Reach Ranges — General {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Reach Condition for Operable Accessories
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Unobstructed reach — 15 in. to 48 in. AFF"
− - "Obstructed reach (over lavatory/counter) — reduced maximum per depth of obstruction"
−default: "Unobstructed reach — 15 in. to 48 in. AFF"
−```
−
−### All operable parts of accessories serving an accessible route — dispensing points, latches, levers, and controls — shall be located within the reach ranges established by ICC A117.1-2017 Section 308 and the ADA 2010 Standards.
−
−### For an unobstructed forward or side reach, the operable part shall be 15 in. minimum and 48 in. maximum above the finished floor.
−
−### Where the reach is over an obstruction (such as a lavatory or counter), the maximum reach height is reduced based on the depth of the obstruction, and the Contractor shall confirm the obstructed-reach geometry for any accessory mounted above or behind a fixture.
−
−## Protruding Objects {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Protruding-Object Compliance Strategy for Wall-Mounted Units
−type: select
−options:
− - "Recess units in circulation paths to limit projection to 4 in. maximum"
− - "Locate surface-mounted units outside the accessible circulation path"
− - "Surface-mount permitted — units do not encroach the 27 in.–80 in. zone in any path"
−default: "Recess units in circulation paths to limit projection to 4 in. maximum"
−```
−
−### Wall-mounted accessories that project from the wall — surface-mounted dispensers, fold-down baby-changing stations, robe hooks, shelves, and surface-mounted grab bars at their brackets — shall comply with the protruding-object limits of ICC A117.1-2017 Section 307 and the ADA 2010 Standards.
−
−### Objects with leading edges between 27 in. and 80 in. above the floor shall not protrude more than 4 in. into the circulation path.
−
−### A surface-mounted soap dispenser or towel dispenser mounted in a corridor or in the path between the door and the lavatory frequently violates the 4 in. limit and is one of the most common accessory deficiencies. {note}
−
−### Where an accessory would protrude more than 4 in. in that height zone, it shall be recessed, relocated outside the circulation path, or mounted with its leading edge below 27 in. or above 80 in.
−
−## Coordination of Accessible Compartment Accessories {toc}
−
−### In an accessible water closet compartment, the toilet-paper dispenser, the sanitary-napkin disposal, the coat hook, and the grab bars shall all be located so that no accessory obstructs another, none obstructs the required clear floor space or transfer space, and each operable part remains within reach.
−
−### The interior elevations shall show the coordinated layout of all compartment accessories together.
−
−### The Contractor shall not locate accessories individually without reference to the coordinated elevation, because an individually placed disposal or dispenser commonly ends up behind or below a grab bar where it cannot be reached.
−
−# Installation and Blocking Coordination {toc}
−
−## In-Wall Blocking and Backing {toc}
−
−### The structural performance of wall-mounted accessories — and grab bars in particular — depends entirely on the in-wall blocking and backing installed during rough framing, long before the accessory is mounted. {note}
−
−### The Contractor shall install solid backing for every wall-mounted accessory at the locations shown on the accessory schedule and interior elevations, coordinated with [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]].
−
−### Backing shall be installed and its locations documented before the gypsum board is closed.
−
−### Accessories that arrive after the wall is finished cannot develop their required load capacity if backing was omitted. {note}
−
−### Grab Bar Backing {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Grab Bar Backing Type
−type: select
−options:
− - "Continuous steel backing plate behind the finish at grab bar locations"
− - "Solid wood blocking between studs at grab bar locations"
− - "Manufactured grab bar mounting plate / fastener system into solid framing"
−default: "Continuous steel backing plate behind the finish at grab bar locations"
−```
−
−#### Grab bars shall be anchored to a continuous steel backing plate or to solid wood blocking installed between the studs at the grab bar height and extending the full length of the bar plus the bracket spread.
−
−#### The backing and fasteners shall together resist the 250 lbf load required by ICC A117.1-2017 Section 609.8 in any direction at any point.
−
−#### Toggle anchors, plastic anchors, and fasteners into gypsum board alone shall not be used to mount grab bars under any circumstance.
−
−#### Where a grab bar is mounted to a toilet compartment pilaster or panel rather than a wall, coordinate the reinforcement with [[sync/toilet-compartments]] so that the panel or pilaster is internally reinforced to carry the load.
−
−### Surface-Mounted Accessory Backing {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Accessory Backing — Surface-Mounted Dispensers and Holders
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Solid blocking or backing plate at each surface-mounted accessory"
− - "Manufacturer's anchors into solid framing only (no gypsum-only anchors)"
−default: "Solid blocking or backing plate at each surface-mounted accessory"
−```
−
−#### Surface-mounted dispensers, holders, mirrors, and shelves shall be anchored to solid blocking or a backing plate at each unit, or to solid framing using the manufacturer's recommended anchors.
−
−#### Fasteners into gypsum board alone are not acceptable for any accessory that bears weight, is subject to pulling, or could be vandalized.
−
−## Recessed Units in Standard Walls {toc}
−
−### Recessed and semi-recessed accessories require a framed wall opening of the dimensions shown in the manufacturer's product data.
−
−### The Contractor shall frame the rough opening during wall framing, confirm the unit's required wall depth against the actual wall cavity depth, and verify that the recessed unit does not conflict with plumbing, conduit, structural studs, or backing for adjacent accessories.
−
−### Recessed units shall be set flush and plumb, with the flange tight to the finished wall surface and sealed where required to prevent moisture migration into the wall cavity.
−
−## Recessed Units in Fire-Rated Walls {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Recessed Accessory in Fire-Rated Wall — Protection Method
−type: select
−options:
− - "Membrane-penetration firestop system (ASTM E814 / UL 1479) per listed design"
− - "Listed fire-rated protective enclosure / backing box behind the recessed unit"
− - "Asymmetric rated wall assembly designed for one-side penetration"
− - "Not applicable — recessed unit is not in a fire-rated wall"
−default: "Not applicable — recessed unit is not in a fire-rated wall"
−```
−
−### Where a recessed accessory penetrates a fire-resistance-rated wall, the membrane penetration created by the recessed unit shall be protected so that the required fire-resistance rating of the wall is maintained, in accordance with IBC Chapter 7.
−
−### A recessed accessory in a rated wall is a membrane penetration and shall be protected by an approved membrane-penetration firestop system tested to ASTM E814 or UL 1479, by a listed protective enclosure (such as a fire-rated backing box or mineral-wool wrap installed per a listed design), or by installing the unit in an asymmetric/unbalanced wall assembly designed to permit one-side penetration.
−
−### The firestop system or protective enclosure shall be coordinated with [[sync/firestopping]].
−
−### The Contractor shall not cut a recessed opening into a fire-rated wall without an approved protection method in hand.
−
−### The protection method shall be submitted and approved before the rated wall is penetrated.
−
−### Cutting a rated wall and installing an unprotected recessed accessory breaches the fire-resistance rating of the wall and is a code violation that is expensive to correct after finishes are complete. {note}
−
−## Recessed Units in Plumbing Walls {toc}
−
−### Recessed accessories on a wet wall shall be coordinated with the plumbing rough-in so that the recessed unit does not conflict with supply piping, waste piping, vent stacks, carriers, or in-wall flush valves and tanks.
−
−### The Contractor shall confirm the wall cavity depth and the location of plumbing before framing the recessed opening, because a recessed unit and a fixture carrier competing for the same wall cavity is a common and avoidable field conflict.
−
−## Mounting Height Field Verification {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Mounting Height Verification at First Toilet Room
−type: radio
−options:
− - "Required — verify and obtain approval at one representative room before proceeding"
− - "Not required — Contractor verifies each room against the schedule"
−default: "Required — verify and obtain approval at one representative room before proceeding"
−```
−
−### Before installation, the Contractor shall lay out the mounting height of every accessory and shall verify each accessible-fixture height against the governing accessibility standard and the accessory schedule.
−
−### The Architect or the Owner's accessibility reviewer may require verification of mounting heights at a representative toilet room before the balance of the accessories are installed.
−
−## Cleaning and Protection {toc}
−
−### Accessories shall be protected from damage and from construction dust and overspray until substantial completion.
−
−### Protective films and packaging shall remain on stainless surfaces and mirrors until final cleaning.
−
−### At completion, stainless surfaces shall be cleaned per the manufacturer's instructions with non-abrasive cleaners only; abrasive cleaners and steel wool shall not be used on stainless steel, as they scratch the finish and embed carbon steel particles that later rust.
−
−# Warranty {toc}
−
−## Accessories — General {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Accessory Warranty Period
−type: select
−options:
− - "1 year from substantial completion — standard"
− - "3 years from substantial completion — extended"
− - "5 years from substantial completion — premium"
−default: "1 year from substantial completion — standard"
−```
−
−### The accessory manufacturer shall warrant its products against defects in materials and workmanship for the specified period.
−
−### The warranty shall cover the accessory body, finish, mechanism, and locks.
−
−### The warranty shall not cover damage caused by abuse, vandalism, improper installation, improper cleaning (including abrasive cleaners on stainless steel), or modifications made without the manufacturer's authorization.
−
−## Mirror Silvering Warranty {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Mirror Silvering Warranty Period
−type: select
−options:
− - "5 years against silver spoilage / edge corrosion — standard"
− - "10 years against silver spoilage / edge corrosion — premium"
− - "15 years against silver spoilage — premium framed mirror program"
−default: "5 years against silver spoilage / edge corrosion — standard"
−```
−
−### The mirror manufacturer shall warrant the silvered mirror glass against silver spoilage and edge corrosion (delamination of the reflective coating) for the specified period.
−
−### Stainless steel mirrors carry the general accessory warranty rather than a silvering warranty.
−
−## Grab Bars and Structural Anchorage {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Grab Bar Warranty Period
−type: select
−options:
− - "1 year from substantial completion — standard"
− - "Limited lifetime against material and finish defect — premium program"
−default: "1 year from substantial completion — standard"
−```
−
−### The grab bar manufacturer shall warrant the grab bar against material and finish defects for the specified period.
−
−### The Contractor shall separately warrant the installation, including the structural anchorage and the in-wall backing, so that every installed grab bar develops the required 250 lbf load resistance for the duration of the installation warranty.
−
−## Installation Warranty {toc}
−
−```datasheet
−label: Contractor Installation Warranty
−type: select
−options:
− - "1 year from substantial completion"
− - "2 years from substantial completion"
−default: "1 year from substantial completion"
−```
−
−### The Contractor shall warrant the installation of all accessories, including correct mounting heights against the governing accessibility standard, proper structural anchorage to in-wall backing, correct fire-rated wall penetration protection where applicable, and secure attachment of all units.
−
−### Deficiencies discovered during the warranty period that are attributable to installation workmanship — including loose accessories, grab bars that do not develop the required load resistance, and accessories mounted outside the accessible reach ranges — shall be corrected by the Contractor at no cost to the Owner.

+---
+
+# Scope {toc}
+
+## This standard covers the furnishing and installation of toilet and bath accessories, including the anchorage hardware furnished with them, the templates and mounting heights they hand to the trades that build the walls and compartments, and the field verification that proves each accessory sits where an accessible user can reach it. {note}
+
+## An accessory is a small product whose failure is a large one: a grab bar that pulls out of a wall, a dispenser outside the reach range, or a recessed unit cut into a rated wall is a life-safety or accessibility deficiency, and the backing that makes a grab bar hold is placed by another trade weeks before the bar arrives. {note}
+
+## The following are outside the scope of this standard: {note}
+- Toilet compartments, urinal screens, and the reinforcement built into a compartment panel to carry an accessory, which are furnished under [[sync/toilet-compartments]]
+- Water closets, urinals, lavatories, showers, bathtubs, faucets, flush valves, and fixture carriers, which are furnished under [[sync/plumbing-fixtures]]
+- In-wall blocking and backing, which are furnished by the wall trades under [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]], [[sync/rough-carpentry]], and [[sync/unit-masonry]]
+- The branch circuit, outlet box, and conductors serving an electric hand dryer, which are furnished under [[sync/conductors-and-cables]] and [[sync/raceways-and-conduit]], and the receptacle serving a cord-connected dryer, which is furnished under [[sync/wiring-devices]]
+- Listed firestop systems and putty pads at membrane penetrations of rated walls, which are furnished under [[sync/firestopping]]
+- Fire extinguisher cabinets, including recessed cabinets in rated walls, which are furnished under [[sync/fire-extinguishers-and-cabinets]]
+- Locker room benches, which are furnished with the lockers under [[sync/metal-lockers]] and [[sync/plastic-lockers]]
+- Countertops and casework, including the cutouts in them for deck-mounted dispensers, which are furnished under [[sync/solid-surface-countertops]] and [[sync/wood-and-laminate-casework]]
+- Vision glass, safety glazing, and glass other than mirrors, which are furnished under [[sync/glazing]]
+- Residential dwelling-unit bath accessories, patient-assist rails, ceiling patient lifts, IV tracks, and cubicle curtains and their tracks, which no SynC standard covers
+
+## Three decisions in this standard are independent of one another and are made separately: the material and finish that every accessory shares, the type and operation of each accessory family, and the mounting arrangement at each location. {note}
+
+## The accessory types, the quantity of each, and the location and mounting height of each accessory shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the accessory schedule and the interior elevations]].
+
+## The Contractor shall furnish the anchor pattern, the mounting height, and the design load of every wall-mounted accessory to the wall trades before the walls are closed, in the form of the blocking and backing schedule that [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]] requires.
+
+## The Contractor shall furnish the anchor pattern and mounting height of every panel-mounted accessory to the compartment fabricator before the compartments are released for fabrication under [[sync/toilet-compartments]].
+
+## The Contractor shall coordinate grab bars, mirrors, and dispensers adjacent to lavatories, water closets, showers, and bathtubs with the fixture rough-in under [[sync/plumbing-fixtures]].
+
+## The Contractor shall furnish the cutout template for each deck-mounted dispenser to the countertop fabricator under [[sync/solid-surface-countertops]] or [[sync/wood-and-laminate-casework]] before the countertops are fabricated.
+
+# Referenced Standards {toc}
+
+## Materials, fabrication, finish, and installation shall comply with the latest adopted edition of each of the following unless a specific edition is cited.
+
+## Where referenced standards conflict, the more stringent requirement shall govern unless the Architect directs otherwise in writing.

+# Submittals {toc}
+
+## Action Submittals {toc}
+
+### The accessory schedule is the one document that ties an accessory, its mounting height, and its backing together, and it is reviewed before the walls close because the backing it locates cannot be added afterward. {note}
+
+### The Contractor shall submit the following for review and shall not release accessories for procurement until the submittals have been returned:
+- An accessory schedule listing every accessory by toilet room, giving its mark, type, mounting arrangement, material, finish, mounting height to the reference point the adopted accessibility standard uses, and quantity
+- Product data for each accessory giving material, sheet thickness, finish, operation, capacity, rough-opening dimensions for recessed and semi-recessed units, and projection from the finished wall
+- Product data for each hand dryer giving voltage, current, power, sound level at the rating distance, projection, and listing
+- Mounting templates and anchor patterns for every grab bar, shower seat, baby-changing station, and panel-mounted accessory
+- Interior elevations or mounting details showing every accessory at its mounting height with the backing it requires
+- The listing or tested system proposed for each recessed unit in a fire-resistance-rated wall
+- Finish samples for each material and finish, and a mirror corner sample showing the frame and the backing
+
+```datasheet
+label: Action Submittals Required
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Accessory schedule by toilet room with mark, type, mounting, finish, height, and quantity"
+ - "Product data for each accessory"
+ - "Hand dryer electrical, sound, projection, and listing data"
+ - "Mounting templates and anchor patterns"
+ - "Interior elevations or mounting details with backing"
+ - "Listing or tested system for recessed units in rated walls"
+ - "Finish samples and mirror corner sample"
+default:
+ - "Accessory schedule by toilet room with mark, type, mounting, finish, height, and quantity"
+ - "Product data for each accessory"
+ - "Mounting templates and anchor patterns"
+ - "Interior elevations or mounting details with backing"
+```
+
+### Where the Contractor proposes an accessory, material, or finish differing from the datasheet selection, the proposal shall be identified as a deviation on the transmittal and shall state what is offered in place of each selected item.
+
+## Closeout Submittals {toc}
+
+### The Contractor shall deliver the following at substantial completion:
+- A record accessory schedule reflecting every field change to type, location, or mounting height
+- Keys for every keyed accessory, with a key count and the keying arrangement identified
+- The written manufacturer warranties for accessories, mirrors, grab bars, and hand dryers, and the written Contractor installation warranty
+- Maintenance data for each serviceable accessory, including refill procedures, battery replacement, filter replacement, and the cleaning agents the finish warranty permits
+- The record of the mounting height verification required under this standard
+
+```datasheet
+label: Closeout Submittals Required
+type: checkbox
+options:
+ - "Record accessory schedule"
+ - "Keys with key count and keying arrangement"
+ - "Manufacturer and Contractor warranties"
+ - "Maintenance data with permitted cleaning agents"
+ - "Mounting height verification record"
+default:
+ - "Record accessory schedule"
+ - "Keys with key count and keying arrangement"
+ - "Manufacturer and Contractor warranties"
+ - "Maintenance data with permitted cleaning agents"
+ - "Mounting height verification record"
+```
+
+# Quality Assurance {toc}
+
+## Source of Supply {toc}
+
+### Accessories from one manufacturer share a finish lot, a lock cylinder, and a visual family, and accessories from several manufacturers can match on paper and still read as two finishes side by side under the same light. {note}
+
+### Grab bars, hand dryers, and baby-changing stations are each made by a narrower set of manufacturers than dispensers are, so holding every accessory to one source narrows the choice of those three products, while excepting them keeps the choice open at the cost of matching their finish separately. {note}
+
+### The source of supply for the accessories shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Source of Supply
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "One manufacturer for every accessory, including grab bars, hand dryers, and baby-changing stations"
+ - "One manufacturer for every accessory except grab bars, hand dryers, and baby-changing stations"
+ - "Multiple manufacturers, with finish matched across every accessory in a toilet room"
+default: "One manufacturer for every accessory except grab bars, hand dryers, and baby-changing stations"
+```
+
+### Where more than one manufacturer is used, the Contractor shall submit the finish samples of every manufacturer together, and the Architect shall confirm the match before procurement.
+
+## Mounting Height Layout Review {toc}
+
+### Mounting height is measured to a different reference point for each accessory, the top of the gripping surface for a grab bar, the reflecting surface for a mirror, and the operable part for a dispenser, and a crew that lays out every accessory to its bottom edge puts half of them out of compliance. {note}
+
+### The layout review at a representative toilet room shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Mounting Layout Review at a Representative Toilet Room
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Required before accessories are installed in the remaining toilet rooms"
+ - "Not required"
+default: "Required before accessories are installed in the remaining toilet rooms"
+```
+
+### Where the layout review is required, the Contractor shall lay out every accessory in one representative toilet room, including one accessible compartment, and shall obtain the Architect's review of the layout before installing accessories elsewhere.
+
+# Service Exposure {toc}
+
+## An accessory in a dry office washroom and the same accessory in a natatorium are not the same product in service: chlorides in the air and in the cleaning chemistry pit a stainless steel that stays bright in the office, and an unsupervised restroom loads every accessory with prying, impact, and theft that an office never sees. {note}
+
+## The service exposure at the accessory locations shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Service Exposure at Accessory Locations
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Conditioned dry commercial restroom"
+ - "Restroom with elevated humidity from adjacent showers or steam"
+ - "Shower room or locker room with standing water"
+ - "Natatorium or chlorinated pool environment"
+ - "Coastal or chloride-bearing exterior air"
+ - "Healthcare or food service restroom under frequent chemical disinfection"
+ - "Unsupervised public, park, or transit restroom"
+ - "Correctional or detention environment"
+```
+
+## Where the service exposure indicated is a natatorium, a coastal location, or frequent chemical disinfection, stainless steel accessories shall be Type 316.
+
+## Where the service exposure indicated is a shower room, a natatorium, or a coastal location, fasteners and anchors shall be stainless steel conforming to ASTM F593.
+
+## Where the service exposure indicated is an unsupervised public restroom or a correctional environment, accessories shall be of the vandal-resistant construction required under this standard.
+
+# Material and Finish {toc}
+
+## Stainless Steel Alloy {toc}
+
+### Type 304 is the alloy of nearly every accessory line, and Type 316 adds molybdenum that resists the chloride pitting Type 304 suffers in pool air, salt air, and daily disinfectant wash. {note}
+
+### The stainless steel alloy for accessory bodies, doors, flanges, and grab bars shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Stainless Steel Alloy
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Type 304, ASTM A666"
+ - "Type 316, ASTM A666"
+default: "Type 304, ASTM A666"
+```
+
+### Stainless steel sheet shall conform to ASTM A666, and stainless steel tubing for grab bars, curtain rods, and shelf brackets shall conform to ASTM A269.
+
+## Stainless Steel Finish {toc}
+
+### A No. 4 satin finish diffuses fingerprints, water spots, and the scratches of daily cleaning, a No. 8 mirror finish returns a sharp image of each of them, a bead-blasted matte finish hides scratches better than satin and is the usual face of vandal-resistant lines, and a PVD or powder-coated color finish buys a dark or warm tone at the cost of a surface that cannot be refinished where it is scratched through. {note}
+
+### The surface finish of exposed stainless steel shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Stainless Steel Surface Finish
+type: select
+options:
+ - "No. 4 satin directional finish, ASTM A480"
+ - "No. 8 mirror finish, ASTM A480"
+ - "Bead-blasted matte finish"
+ - "PVD color coating over satin stainless steel"

+default: "No. 4 satin directional finish, ASTM A480"
+```
+
+### Where a directional finish is furnished, the direction of the polish lines shall be consistent across every accessory in a toilet room.
+
+### Where a color finish is furnished, every accessory in a toilet room shall be finished from one coating lot, and the Contractor shall submit a sample of each accessory type in the coating for approval before procurement.
+
+## Sheet Thickness {toc}
+
+### A heavier sheet buys a door that does not oil-can when pushed and a flange that does not dent under a mop handle, at the cost of weight and price, and a vandal-resistant line is built from heavier sheet throughout rather than at the door alone. {note}
+
+### The minimum sheet thickness of doors, flanges, and exposed cabinet bodies shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Minimum Sheet Thickness of Doors, Flanges, and Exposed Bodies
+type: select
+options:
+ - "22 gauge"
+ - "20 gauge"
+ - "18 gauge"
+ - "16 gauge"
+default: manufacturer
+```
+
+### Where no sheet thickness is selected, the manufacturer shall report the sheet thickness of each exposed component in the product data.
+
+### Exposed edges shall be hemmed, rolled, or returned so that no sheared edge is presented to the user.
+
+## Plated and Plastic Components {toc}
+
+### Plated zinc or brass and molded plastic appear in an accessory line at the parts a hand touches and the parts that are replaced, the lever, the cover, the key, and the liner, and the plating grade is what separates a part that survives a locker room from one that survives an office. {note}
+
+### Chromium-plated components shall be plated in accordance with ASTM B456 at the service condition number indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Chromium Plating Service Condition, ASTM B456
+type: select
+options:
+ - "SC1, mild service"
+ - "SC2, moderate service"
+ - "SC3, severe service"
+ - "SC4, very severe service"
+ - "Not applicable, no chromium-plated components are furnished"
+```
+
+### Plastic components exposed to the room shall have a flame spread index and smoke developed index meeting the interior finish class [[parameter: adopted-building-code]] requires for the location when tested in accordance with ASTM E84.
+
+## Antimicrobial Surface Treatment {toc}
+
+### An antimicrobial additive in a coating or a polymer is registered as a treated article, and the claim it supports is that the additive protects the surface itself from microbial degradation, not that the accessory protects the user. {note}
+
+### The antimicrobial surface treatment shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Antimicrobial Surface Treatment
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "No antimicrobial treatment specified"
+ - "Antimicrobial additive on hand-contact surfaces where the manufacturer offers it"
+default: "No antimicrobial treatment specified"
+```
+
+### Where an antimicrobial treatment is indicated, the product data shall identify the additive, its registration, and the surfaces that carry it.
+
+# Vandal Resistance, Fasteners, and Keying {toc}
+
+## Vandal-Resistant Construction {toc}
+
+### An unsupervised restroom loads an accessory with prying at the door, impact at the face, and removal of anything a screwdriver can reach, and the line built for that service answers with heavier sheet, concealed or security fasteners, and locks that cannot be opened with a bent wire. {note}
+
+### The accessory construction class shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Accessory Construction Class
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Standard commercial construction"
+ - "Vandal-resistant construction with heavier sheet, security fasteners, and tumbler locks"
+default: "Standard commercial construction"
+```
+
+### Where vandal-resistant construction is indicated, every exposed fastener shall be of the security head type indicated in the datasheet, every dispenser lock shall be a tumbler lock, and every mounting flange shall be concealed or through-bolted.
+
+## Exposed Fastener Head Type {toc}
+
+### A fastener head is the interface a tool needs, so the head type decides whether an accessory can be removed by anyone carrying an ordinary screwdriver, and a one-way head cannot be backed out at all without a replacement part. {note}
+
+### Exposed fasteners shall have the head type indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Exposed Fastener Head Type
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Cross-recess head"
+ - "One-way slotted head"
+ - "Pin-in-head hex"
+ - "Pin-in-head six-lobe"
+ - "Spanner head"
+```
+
+### Fasteners and anchors furnished with accessories shall be stainless steel, and plated steel fasteners shall not be used where they are exposed to the room.
+
+## Dispenser Locks and Keying {toc}
+
+### One key for every dispenser in the building is what the custodial staff carries, and a dispenser keyed to a different cylinder is the one that stays empty. {note}
+
+### Keyed dispensers and receptacles shall be keyed as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Dispenser Keying
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "All keyed accessories keyed alike throughout the project"
+ - "Keyed alike within each building"
+ - "No keyed-alike requirement"
+default: "All keyed accessories keyed alike throughout the project"
+```
+
+### Not fewer than two keys shall be furnished for each keying group, and keys shall be delivered to the Owner with the closeout submittals.
+
+# Mounting Arrangement {toc}
+
+## A surface-mounted unit is the simplest to install and the one that projects into the room, a recessed unit sits flush at the cost of a framed opening, a wall deep enough to hold it, and clearance from the plumbing behind it, and a semi-recessed unit splits the projection where the wall cavity is too shallow to take the whole unit. {note}
+
+## The mounting arrangement of dispensers, receptacles, and hand dryers at each location shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Mounting Arrangement of Dispensers, Receptacles, and Hand Dryers
+type: select
+drawing_ref: "the accessory schedule"
+options:
+ - "Surface-mounted"
+ - "Semi-recessed"
+ - "Recessed"
+default: deferred
+```
+
+## The Contractor shall verify the wall cavity depth and the location of plumbing, conduit, and backing at each recessed and semi-recessed unit before the rough opening is framed.
+
+## Recessed and semi-recessed units shall be set plumb, with the flange tight to the finished wall surface and the joint sealed where the unit is in a wet wall.
+
+## Recessed Units in Fire-Resistance-Rated Walls {toc}
+
+### A recessed accessory cut into a rated wall reduces the wall to the thickness of the accessory's sheet-metal box at the opening, and the rating is restored only by a unit listed for the assembly, by a listed protection system wrapped around the unit, or by not recessing the unit at all. {note}
+
+### The protection of recessed units in fire-resistance-rated walls shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Protection of Recessed Units in Rated Walls
+type: select
+options:

+ - "Listed membrane-penetration protection system furnished under firestopping"
+ - "Unit surface-mounted or relocated to a wall that is not rated"
+ - "Not applicable, no recessed units occur in rated walls"
+```
+
+### A recessed or semi-recessed unit in a wall required by [[parameter: adopted-building-code]] to have a fire-resistance rating shall be installed so that the rating of the wall is maintained, by a unit or enclosure listed with the assembly or by a membrane-penetration protection system tested in accordance with ASTM E814 or UL 1479 and furnished under [[sync/firestopping]].
+
+### The Contractor shall not cut a rough opening in a rated wall until the protection method for that opening has been submitted and returned.
+
+# Grab Bars {toc}
+
+## Grab Bar Section {toc}
+
+### A circular bar is gripped around its whole circumference and the diameter sets how a hand closes on it, while a non-circular bar is judged on its perimeter and its cross-section limits rather than on one dimension. {note}
+
+### The grab bar cross-section shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Cross-Section
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Circular"

+```
+
+### The outside diameter of circular grab bars shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Outside Diameter
+type: range
+unit: in
+min: 1.25
+max: 2
+setpoints: [1.25, 1.5, 2]
+default: 1.5
+```
+
+### The wall thickness of grab bar tubing shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Tubing Wall Thickness
+type: range
+unit: in
+min: 0.035
+max: 0.065
+setpoints: [0.035, 0.049, 0.065]
+default: 0.049
+```
+
+### Grab bars shall be held at the clearance from the wall that the adopted accessibility standard requires, and the mounting brackets shall fix that clearance without field adjustment.
+
+## Grab Bar Gripping Surface {toc}
+
+### A satin surface is the ordinary one, a peened surface adds grip where the hand and the bar are both wet, and a knurled surface adds more grip still at the cost of a texture that holds soil and is harder to disinfect. {note}
+
+### The gripping surface of grab bars shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Gripping Surface
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Satin finish"
+ - "Peened slip-resistant finish"
+ - "Knurled finish"
+default: "Satin finish"
+```
+
+### Grab bars at showers and bathtubs shall have a peened or knurled gripping surface unless the datasheet selects otherwise.
+
+### Grab bars and their flanges shall be free of sharp edges, burrs, and abrasive elements, and bar ends shall return to the wall or be closed.
+
+## Grab Bar Mounting Flange {toc}
+
+### A concealed-screw flange with a snap-on cover presents no fastener to the room, and an exposed-screw flange presents the fasteners to the room and to a screwdriver. {note}
+
+### The grab bar mounting flange shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Mounting Flange
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Concealed-screw flange with snap-on cover"
+ - "Exposed-screw flange"
+default: "Concealed-screw flange with snap-on cover"
+```
+
+## Grab Bar Structural Load {toc}
+
+### The grab bar, its flanges, its fasteners, and the backing behind the wall are one load path, and the bar is only as strong as the weakest of the four; a bar fastened into gypsum board alone develops none of its rated load regardless of the strength of the bar. {note}
+
+### Grab bars, their mounting brackets, and their fasteners shall resist a concentrated load of 250 lbf applied in any direction at any point on the bar without failure, in accordance with ICC A117.1 Section 609.8 and the 2010 ADA Standards Section 609.8.
+
+### Grab bars in the bathing area shall conform to ASTM F446.
+
+### The Contractor shall furnish the grab bar design load to the trades that provide the backing, so that the backing is sized to develop it.
+
+## Grab Bar Anchorage {toc}
+
+### Fasteners into in-wall backing are the ordinary anchorage in a framed wall, masonry and concrete take an expansion or screw anchor directly, a compartment panel takes a through-bolt into the reinforcement the fabricator built in, and a manufactured concealed anchor assembly rated for the grab bar load is the answer where an existing wall has no backing and will not be opened. {note}
+
+### The grab bar anchorage method shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Anchorage Method
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Fasteners into in-wall backing furnished by the wall trades"
+ - "Expansion or screw anchors into solid masonry or concrete"
+ - "Through-bolts into compartment panel reinforcement"
+ - "Manufactured concealed anchor assembly rated for the grab bar load, in walls without backing"
+```
+
+### Toggle anchors, plastic anchors, and fasteners engaging gypsum board alone shall not be used to anchor a grab bar.
+
+### Where a grab bar anchors into a compartment panel, the Contractor shall furnish the anchor pattern to the compartment fabricator under [[sync/toilet-compartments]] before fabrication, and shall through-bolt the bar into the reinforcement provided.
+
+### Where a manufactured concealed anchor assembly is used, the product data shall include the manufacturer's test report showing that the assembly develops the grab bar design load in the wall construction at that location.
+
+## Grab Bar Configuration and Location {toc}
+
+### The length, configuration, and location of grab bars at each accessible water closet, shower, and bathtub shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the interior elevations]].
+
+### Grab bars at each accessible water closet, shower, and bathtub shall be installed at the mounting heights and positions the adopted accessibility standard requires for that fixture type.
+
+### The Contractor shall coordinate grab bar locations and the backing behind them at accessible showers and bathtubs with the fixture rough-in under [[sync/plumbing-fixtures]].
+
+# Mirrors {toc}
+
+## Mirror Glass {toc}
+
+### A silvered float glass mirror gives the truest image and breaks into shards, a laminated mirror holds its shards on the interlayer, a tempered mirror breaks into small pieces and shows a slight distortion from the tempering, and a polished stainless steel mirror cannot break at all and shows a softer image that dulls as it is scratched. {note}
+
+### The mirror glass type shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Mirror Glass Type
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Silvered annealed float glass mirror, ASTM C1503"

+ - "Polished acrylic or polycarbonate mirror"
+default: "Silvered annealed float glass mirror, ASTM C1503"
+```
+
+### The mirror glass thickness shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Mirror Glass Thickness

+```
+
+### Silvered mirrors shall be glazing quality mirror select glass per ASTM C1036, silvered and protected with a copper-free backing and a protective paint system in accordance with ASTM C1503.
+
+### Mirror edges shall be sealed against moisture, and a mirror whose edges are exposed within the frame shall have a sealed edge coating.
+
+### Where the service exposure indicated is a correctional or detention environment, or where the mirror is in a location [[parameter: adopted-building-code]] designates as subject to human impact, mirrors shall be laminated, tempered, or stainless steel.
+
+## Mirror Frame and Backing {toc}
+
+### A channel frame wraps the mirror edge and carries the glass on a backing that keeps moisture off the silver, an angle frame shows a narrower face, a frameless mirror is hung on concealed clips and shows its edge, a fixed-tilt frame tips the glass toward a seated user, and a frame with an integral shelf adds a ledge below the glass. {note}
+
+### The mirror frame shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Mirror Frame
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Stainless steel channel frame with welded corners"

+default: "Stainless steel channel frame with welded corners"
+```
+
+### Framed mirrors shall have a galvanized steel or stainless steel back, a shock-absorbing filler between the glass and the back, and concealed hangers that lock the mirror to a wall bracket so that it cannot be lifted off without a tool.
+
+### The size and location of each mirror shall be [[drawing: as indicated on the interior elevations]].
+
+### Mirrors at accessible lavatories and mirrors not above a lavatory shall be mounted with the bottom edge of the reflecting surface at the height the adopted accessibility standard requires for each condition, measured to the glass and not to the frame.
+
+# Hand Drying {toc}
+
+## Hand Drying Method {toc}
+
+### Paper towels cost consumables and custodial time and give the user something to open the door with, a hand dryer costs a branch circuit and sound, and furnishing both is the arrangement that serves a user who will not use a dryer. {note}
+
+### The hand drying method shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Hand Drying Method
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Paper towel dispensers only"
+ - "Electric hand dryers only"
+ - "Paper towel dispensers and electric hand dryers"
+```
+
+## Paper Towel Dispensers {toc}
+
+### A folded towel dispenser holds a stack and hands out one towel per pull, and a roll towel dispenser holds more paper in less cabinet and meters each towel to a length, which lowers consumption where the roll is cut rather than pulled free. {note}
+
+### A lever or crank is the lowest-cost operation, a mechanical hands-free dispenser gives a touchless pull with no power, a battery sensor dispenser gives a touchless pull at the cost of batteries, and a hardwired sensor dispenser gives the same at the cost of a branch circuit. {note}
+
+### A combination unit puts the towel dispenser and the waste receptacle in one recessed cabinet, which keeps the receptacle off the floor and out of the clear floor space, at the cost of a deeper wall opening than either alone. {note}
+
+### The paper towel form shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Paper Towel Form
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Folded towels"

+
+## Electric Hand Dryers {toc}
+
+### A conventional warm-air dryer moves a low volume of heated air and dries slowly and quietly, a high-speed hands-under dryer dries in a fraction of the time at a higher sound level, and a hands-in trough dryer collects the water it strips off and is the loudest of the three. {note}
+
+### The hand dryer type shall be as indicated in the datasheet.

+
+### A robe hook serving an accessible compartment, dressing room, or shower shall be mounted within the reach range the adopted accessibility standard requires, and a second hook may be mounted above it.
+
+### Robe hooks mounted in a circulation path shall not project beyond the limit the adopted accessibility standard sets for a protruding object.
+
+# Waste Receptacles {toc}
+
+## A recessed or semi-recessed receptacle stays out of the clear floor space and off the mop path, a surface-mounted receptacle hangs on the wall where the wall cavity is too shallow to recess it, and a floor-standing receptacle holds the most and is the one a custodian can push into an accessible clearance. {note}
+
+## The waste receptacle type shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Waste Receptacle Type
+type: select
+options:
+ - "Wall-mounted receptacle, recessed or semi-recessed per the mounting arrangement"

+
+## Receptacles shall not be located within the clear floor space, the turning space, or the maneuvering clearance the adopted accessibility standard requires.
+
+# Baby-Changing Stations {toc}
+
+## A horizontal station folds down to a surface a child lies across and needs wall width, a vertical station folds down to a surface a child lies along and needs wall height, and the choice follows from the wall that is available rather than from the product. {note}
+
+## A polymer station is light, molded in one piece, and the material of nearly every line, a stainless-clad station carries a stainless face over a polymer shell for a restroom finished in stainless, and an all-stainless station is the one that survives a correctional or unsupervised room. {note}
+
+## The baby-changing station orientation shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Baby-Changing Station Orientation
+type: radio
+options:

+
+## A baby-changing station on an accessible route shall be mounted so that the operable parts and the changing surface in the open position are within the reach range and at the height the adopted accessibility standard requires, and so that the closed station does not project beyond the limit the adopted accessibility standard sets for a protruding object.
+
+## The Contractor shall furnish the anchor pattern and the rated load of each baby-changing station to the wall trades, and the backing behind each station shall develop the rated load.
+
+# Shower and Bathing Accessories {toc}
+
+## Shower Curtain Rods and Curtains {toc}
+
+### A curtain rod is a grab point whether or not it is meant to be one, so it is anchored into backing as a grab bar is, and a curtain is chosen by whether it has to resist mildew, be laundered, or be set alight. {note}
+
+### The shower curtain rod and curtain provision shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Shower Curtain Rod and Curtain Provision
+type: checkbox
+options:

+```
+
+### Curtain rods shall be stainless steel tubing of not less than 1 in. outside diameter, anchored at each end into backing or masonry.
+
+### Curtains shall extend to within 6 in. of the finished floor and shall overlap the shower opening at each side.
+
+## Folding Shower Seats {toc}
+
+### A folding seat lets a user transfer onto it from a chair and folds out of the way when it is not used, and the seat profile follows the compartment: an L-shaped seat for a transfer compartment and a rectangular seat for a roll-in compartment. {note}
+
+### Phenolic slats drain and do not absorb water, solid plastic is one molded piece with no joints to hold soil, and a padded vinyl-covered seat is softer and the one whose cover tears. {note}
+
+### The folding shower seat provision shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Folding Shower Seat Provision
+type: select
+options:
+ - "L-shaped folding seat"

+```
+
+### Folding shower seats shall have a stainless steel frame and shall resist the load the adopted accessibility standard requires for a shower seat without failure.
+
+### Folding shower seats shall be mounted at the height and position the adopted accessibility standard requires for the shower compartment type, and the Contractor shall coordinate the seat position with the shower controls under [[sync/plumbing-fixtures]].
+

+```
+
+## Shelves shall be stainless steel of not less than 18 gauge, with the front edge hemmed or returned, supported on brackets anchored into backing.
+
+## A shelf serving an accessible compartment shall be mounted within the height band the adopted accessibility standard requires for a shelf, and a shelf in a circulation path shall not project beyond the limit the adopted accessibility standard sets for a protruding object.
+
+## A shelf serving an accessible compartment or a custodial shelf serving an accessible custodial closet is located by the same reach rules as a dispenser, and its load is the one it will carry when someone leans on it. {note}
+
+# Accessibility and Reach {toc}
+
+## An accessible toilet room is judged on what a user must reach and operate, so every dispenser, hook, latch, and control is placed by the reach range of the adopted accessibility standard rather than by the convenience of the installer, and the reach that governs above a lavatory or a counter is the obstructed one. {note}
+
+## The operable part of every accessory serving an accessible fixture, compartment, or route shall be within the forward or side reach range the adopted accessibility standard requires, measured from the clear floor space at that accessory.
+
+## Where an accessory is reached over a lavatory, a counter, or another obstruction, the operable part shall be within the obstructed reach range the adopted accessibility standard allows for the depth of that obstruction.
+
+## Every operable part of an accessory shall be operable with one hand without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist, and with a force of not more than 5 lbf.
+
+## An accessory with its leading edge in the height band the adopted accessibility standard regulates shall not project into a circulation path beyond the limit the adopted accessibility standard sets for a protruding object.
+
+## In an accessible compartment, the tissue dispenser, the napkin disposal, the seat-cover dispenser, the robe hook, and the grab bars shall be located together on the interior elevation so that no accessory obstructs another, none reduces the clear floor space, and each operable part is within reach.
+
+# Field Verification {toc}
+
+## A grab bar that holds a hand-applied pull can still fail a 250 lbf load, and the only way to know what the backing behind a finished wall develops is to load a bar against it. {note}
+
+## The field load verification of installed grab bars shall be as indicated in the datasheet.
+
+```datasheet
+label: Grab Bar Field Load Verification
+type: radio
+options:
+ - "Hand-applied pull at every bar"
+ - "Instrumented 250 lbf test at a sample of bars selected by the Architect"
+ - "Instrumented 250 lbf test at every bar"
+default: "Hand-applied pull at every bar"
+```
+
+## Where an instrumented test is indicated, the Contractor shall apply the test load in each of the vertical and horizontal directions at the midspan of the bar, shall record the result, and shall replace the anchorage of any bar that moves or deforms under the load.
+
+## Before substantial completion, the Contractor shall measure the mounting height of every accessory serving an accessible fixture, compartment, or route against the accessory schedule and the adopted accessibility standard, and shall record the measurement in the mounting height verification record.
+
+## The Contractor shall operate every sensor dispenser and every hand dryer and shall confirm that each dispenses or runs on an unobstructed approach from the clear floor space.
+
+## Accessories found out of position, out of reach, or loose shall be corrected by the Contractor at no cost to the Owner before substantial completion, including the cost of patching the finish at the former location.
+
+# Delivery, Storage, and Handling {toc}
+
+## Accessories shall be delivered in the manufacturer's packaging, with protective film on finished surfaces intact, and shall be identified by the mark on the accessory schedule.
+
+## Accessories shall be stored inside a weathertight space, off the floor, and shall not be delivered until the toilet room finishes are complete.
+
+## Mirrors shall be stored on edge, separated, and clear of moisture.
+
+## Components damaged in delivery, storage, or handling shall be replaced at the Contractor's cost.
+
+# Installation {toc}
+
+## Backing Verification {toc}
+
+### Backing is placed by the wall trades from the templates and mounting heights this standard hands them, and a wall closed with the backing in the wrong place is the same as a wall closed with no backing at all. {note}
+
+### Before the walls are closed, the Contractor shall verify that backing has been installed at every wall-mounted accessory location at the height and extent the anchor pattern requires.
+
+### Where backing is missing or mislocated, the Contractor shall notify the Architect in writing before the wall is closed and shall not anchor an accessory to gypsum board alone at that location.
+
+### After the walls are finished, the Contractor shall locate the concealed backing from the marks or the record framing drawings that [[sync/gypsum-board-assemblies]] requires before drilling.
+
+## Setting and Anchorage {toc}
+
+### Accessories shall be installed plumb, level, and square, at the mounting heights on the accessory schedule, with the manufacturer's templates and the fasteners furnished with each accessory.
+
+### Anchors shall be selected for the substrate they engage, using through-bolts or screws into backing in framed walls, expansion or screw anchors in masonry and concrete, and through-bolts into reinforcement in compartment panels.
+
+### Where an accessory mounts through ceramic tile, the Contractor shall drill the tile with a bit suited to it and shall not anchor to the tile or to the setting bed alone.
+
+### Where an accessory mounts to a compartment panel, the Contractor shall anchor it only into the reinforcement the fabricator provided for it and shall not anchor it into an unreinforced panel.
+
+### The Contractor shall confirm the mounting height of each accessory against the reference point the adopted accessibility standard uses for that accessory, and not against the bottom edge of the unit.
+
+## Cleaning and Protection {toc}
+
+### Protective film shall remain on stainless steel and mirrors until final cleaning, and shall be removed without leaving adhesive residue.
+
+### Stainless steel shall be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner applied with the grain, and abrasive pads, steel wool, and chloride-bearing cleaners shall not be used on it.
+
+### At substantial completion, every dispenser shall be filled with the consumable it holds and every receptacle shall be fitted with its liner.
+

+
+## The warranty shall not cover damage from use beyond the service exposure indicated in the datasheet, from cleaning agents the maintenance data excludes, or from modification of an accessory without the manufacturer's written authorization.
+
+## Where the parties disagree whether an observed condition is a warranted defect or damage from use, the Architect shall make the initial determination.
+
+# Spare Parts {toc}
+
+## Dispenser lines change every few years, and the part that is consumed first is the key, the lock, and the liner, none of which is stocked by a custodial supplier. {note}
