### Polyethylene basins shall be rotationally molded or fabricated of a resin the manufacturer certifies for buried wastewater service, with molded or welded flanges for anchorage, and shall be limited to the burial depth and diameter the manufacturer publishes for the wall thickness furnished.
−### Coated welded steel basins shall be fabricated of steel plate with continuous welds, blast-cleaned, and coated inside and out with a coating system the manufacturer certifies for immersion in wastewater, and shall be furnished with the cathodic protection or dielectric isolation the soil condition requires.

### Fiberglass is immune to sulfide attack, arrives as one piece with the flanges, brackets, and penetrations already in it, and is the basin nearly every packaged station is built on; it is limited in diameter and depth by the laminate the manufacturer can build, and it must be ballasted against flotation because it weighs almost nothing. Precast concrete reaches the large diameters and depths fiberglass cannot, and its own mass resists flotation, but it is attacked by the sulfuric acid that forms above the waterline in sewage service and needs a lining there. Polymer concrete carries the mass and stiffness of concrete with the acid resistance of a resin, at a higher price and from fewer suppliers. Polyethylene is the lightest and least expensive basin for small shallow stations and the one with the lowest burial depth limit. Coated steel is used where a shape no molded or cast basin offers is needed, and its life is the life of its coating. {note}
