SynC · Topic
These are the standards in the SynC Standards library that cover Sealants. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide — ratings, materials, setpoints, and the standards each is verified against. All of it is free to read without an account and published under CC BY-SA 4.0.
A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.
Metal and flexible ductwork for low-pressure, medium-pressure, and high-pressure HVAC air distribution systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. Covers rectangular, round, flat-oval, and flexible duct; pressure and seal classifications; gauge and reinforcement; fittings and turning vanes; duct liner and external insulation; sealants; fire and smoke dampers; access doors; hangers and supports; leakage testing; and field verification. Applies to new construction and major renovation of supply, return, exhaust, and outside-air distribution systems.
Field-applied, cold liquid-applied elastomeric and latex joint sealants used to weatherseal and close working and non-working joints in the building envelope and interior. Covers exterior vertical weatherseal joints between dissimilar wall materials, expansion and control joints in concrete and masonry, perimeter joints around windows, doors, louvers, and other openings, interior acoustical and concealed joints, and horizontal traffic-bearing joints in walkways and decks. Addresses sealant chemistry selection (neutral- and acid-cure silicone, single- and multi-component polyurethane, silyl-terminated polyether/polymer hybrid, and acrylic latex), movement capability classes established by ASTM C719 cyclic-movement testing, ASTM C920 Type/Grade/Class/Use classification, joint design and width-to-depth ratio, backer rod and bond-breaker selection, primers, non-staining sealant on porous stone, sealant-substrate compatibility and adhesion testing, field adhesion testing, and weatherproofing warranties.
Shop- and field-formed architectural sheet metal that closes the building envelope at interfaces - copings on parapets, gravel stops, fasciae and drip edges at roof edges, counterflashings over membrane base flashings, through-wall and head and sill flashings, gutters, downspouts, scuppers and conductor heads, expansion joint covers, and closure and reveal trim. Covers zinc-coated and aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and architectural zinc; coil-applied and anodized finishes; forming, hemming, seaming, soldering, and welding; thermal movement and expansion joint provisions; wind securement of low-slope roof edges to ANSI/SPRI ES-1; fastener, cleat, sealant, and underlayment selection; and galvanic separation of dissimilar metals.
