Standards12

These are the standards in SynC Standards that cover ADA. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide, with the standards each is verified against. All of it is written and maintained by SynC, free to read without an account, and published under CC BY 4.0.

A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.

  • Entrance Flooring and Walk-Off Systems

Permanently installed entrance flooring and walk-off systems that capture moisture, soil, grit, and snowmelt from foot and rolling traffic at building entrances before it reaches the interior finish floor. Covers recessed and surface-mounted rail grilles with replaceable tread inserts in lift-out, hinged, and roll-up construction, recessed and surface-mounted link and modular mats, and walk-off carpet tile and broadloom in the interior wiper zone. Addresses the arrangement of the exterior scraper, threshold scraper-wiper, and interior wiper zones, walk-off length, rail and frame materials, recess depth and drainage, rolling load rating, tread inserts, accessibility of the walking surface, slip resistance, flammability and low-emitting requirements for textiles, installation, cleaning, warranty, and attic stock.

  • Metal Lockers

Covers substrate selection and corrosion protection, component sheet thickness, tier and opening configuration, door ventilation, latching and locking including electronic locks, powder-coat finish performance, tops, bases and closure trim, accessible lockers under the ADA Standards and ICC A117.1, and floor, wall, and seismic anchorage.

  • Plumbing Fixtures

Plumbing fixtures and their trim, carriers, supply stops, and exposed waste connections in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. Covers water closets, urinals, lavatories, service sinks and mop basins, hand-wash sinks, break room and office kitchen sinks, showers, drinking fountains and bottle fillers, and plumbed emergency eyewash and drench shower equipment. Establishes the fixture material and construction, the flush and flow technology, the consumption rates measured against the federal EPAct maximums and the EPA WaterSense specifications, the mounting and carrier requirements, the accessibility criteria, the scald-protection arrangement at the fixture, and the acceptance testing that proves each fixture performs at its rated volume or flow.

  • Plumbing Insulation

Thermal insulation, jacketing, vapor retarders, and ADA protective covers for plumbing piping inside buildings — domestic hot water and recirculation (energy conservation), domestic cold water (condensation control), and storm and roof-drainage bodies and overflow piping (condensation on cold rainwater). Covers material selection by service (mineral/glass fiber with all-service jacket for hot lines, closed-cell elastomeric for cold and condensation control, phenolic where space is limited), insulation thickness by the adopted energy code, continuous vapor-retarder construction on cold and storm piping, jacketing by exposure (all-service jacket concealed, PVC fitting covers, metal jacket in mechanical rooms and outdoors), insulation inserts and shields at hangers, and molded protective covers on the hot, cold, and waste/trap piping below accessible lavatories and sinks.

  • Resilient Flooring

Interior resilient floor coverings and resilient wall base in commercial, institutional, healthcare, educational, hospitality, and multi-family construction: luxury vinyl tile and plank, rigid core vinyl plank, vinyl composition tile, homogeneous and heterogeneous sheet vinyl, rubber tile and sheet, sheet and tile linoleum, resilient wall base, resilient stair treads, transition strips, and the adhesives, seam welding, integral flash cove, and static control grounding that go with them.
