Backflow Prevention
These are the standards in SynC Standards that cover Backflow Prevention. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide, with the standards each is verified against. All of it is written and maintained by SynC, free to read without an account, and published under CC BY 4.0.
A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.
Standards
- Backflow Prevention
The assemblies and devices that keep water from flowing backward into a potable supply, in commercial, institutional, industrial, and multifamily buildings served by a utility or by a private source. Covers the building water service assembly at the point of entry, the premises isolation assembly on it, the isolation assemblies at internal cross-connections such as equipment makeup water, chemical feed, laboratory, and irrigation connections, and the detector and non-detector assemblies on a fire service supplied from a potable main. Establishes how the degree of hazard at each connection is classified, which assembly type that classification admits, the construction, listing, and lead-free certification of each assembly, its orientation, height, clearances, support, relief discharge, outdoor enclosure or vault, and the initial field test and certification by a certified tester that puts it in service.
- Landscape Irrigation
Underground automatic landscape irrigation on commercial, institutional, industrial, campus, and multi-family sites, from the irrigation point of connection through the mainline, isolation and zone control valves, the master valve and flow sensor, lateral piping, spray bodies and gear-driven rotors, drip and subsurface drip, the controller with its rain, freeze, flow, and soil moisture sensors and its field wiring, sleeving under paving, irrigation-specific pipe zone and cover requirements, hydrostatic and coverage testing, controller programming, winterization, record documents, warranty, and spare parts. Read alongside the irrigation plan, legend, zone schedule, and details, which carry the head and emitter layout, spacing, nozzle assignments, zone flows and pressures, pipe sizes, and routing this standard defers to them.
