Earthwork
These are the standards in SynC Standards that cover Earthwork. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide, with the standards each is verified against. All of it is written and maintained by SynC, free to read without an account, and published under CC BY 4.0.
A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.
Standards
- Earthwork
Mass and structural earthwork for commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-family building sites, from the cleared and demolished condition through placement of fill and acceptance of the subgrade. Covers excavation to the lines and grades of the grading and foundation drawings, classification of excavated material and rock removal, removal and replacement of unsuitable material, foundation and trench excavation, protection of workers and of adjacent structures in ordinary excavations, routine groundwater control by sump pumping, the fill classes (structural fill, free-draining granular fill, general site fill, recycled concrete aggregate, controlled low-strength material) and their sources, lift placement, moisture conditioning, compaction targets by use, backfill against structures and walls, trench backfill above the pipe zone, backfill of cavities and voids, proof rolling and subgrade acceptance, subgrade stabilization where proof rolling fails, field density testing and acceptance, frozen-ground and wet-weather restrictions, and the disposition of surplus and the sourcing of borrow. Read alongside the geotechnical investigation report and the civil grading drawings, which carry the project-specific values this standard defers to them.
- Storm Drainage
Gravity storm sewer collection and conveyance on the site, for commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-family projects. Covers storm sewer mains, laterals, and fittings in reinforced concrete, corrugated thermoplastic, solid-wall and profile-wall PVC, corrugated metal, and ductile iron; catch basins, curb and grate inlets, area drains, manholes, and junction structures; frames, grates, and covers; trench excavation, pipe embedment, and backfill within the pipe zone; outfall end treatments and scour protection; connection to an existing or municipal storm system; and the leakage, deflection, and video acceptance testing of the completed system.
