Energy Recovery Ventilators

Devices that recover energy from exhaust air to precondition incoming ventilation.

Standards1

These are the standards in SynC Standards that cover Energy Recovery Ventilators. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide, with the standards each is verified against. All of it is written and maintained by SynC, free to read without an account, and published under CC BY 4.0.

A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.

  • Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems

Factory-assembled dedicated outdoor air units that condition 100% outdoor air to a controlled leaving air dew point and supply air temperature, independent of the sensible heating and cooling of the spaces they ventilate. Covers packaged outdoor and indoor units with direct-expansion, heat pump, or chilled water cooling; hot gas, wraparound, hydronic, and electric reheat; heat pump, gas-fired, electric, hydronic, and recovery-only heating; the air-to-air energy recovery section and its exhaust side; supply and exhaust fans; filtration; casing, drain pans, and curbs; the refrigerant, its safety group, and the detection provisions that go with mildly flammable refrigerants; the supply air temperature and dew point control strategy and the unit's interface to the building automation system and to the parallel sensible system; and the setting, connection, startup, and commissioning of the installed unit. Applies to units serving variable refrigerant flow, fan coil, water-source heat pump, chilled beam, and radiant systems, to units supplying laboratory make-up air, and to units delivering ventilation air directly to occupied spaces.
