Pumps
These are the standards in SynC Standards that cover Pumps. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide, with the standards each is verified against. All of it is written and maintained by SynC, free to read without an account, and published under CC BY 4.0.
A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.
Standards
- Fire Pumps
Stationary fire pump assemblies installed under NFPA 20 to supply automatic sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, combined sprinkler and standpipe risers, water spray systems, private hydrant mains, and the water side of foam-water and foam systems, wherever the available supply cannot deliver the system demand at the required pressure. Covers the listed centrifugal fire pump in its horizontal split-case, end-suction, vertical in-line, multistage multiport, and vertical turbine forms; the listed electric motor or diesel engine driver, with the engine's cooling, exhaust, fuel supply at the engine, starting batteries, and battery chargers; the jockey pump and its own controller; the suction and discharge piping and trim inside the pump room, including the listed control and check valves, the relief valves, the hose valve test header or flow meter loop, the gauges, and the automatic air release on the casing; the NEC Article 695 power source arrangement stated as a design requirement; the supervisory signals the assembly sends to the fire alarm system; the fire pump room provisions of NFPA 20 Chapter 4; the certified factory curve; the field acceptance test of NFPA 20 Chapter 14; warranty; and spare parts.
- HVAC Pumps
Rotodynamic (centrifugal) pumps that circulate water and water-glycol solutions for building heating, cooling, and heat-rejection service. Covers closed-loop heating hot water and chilled water pumps, open-loop condenser water pumps serving cooling towers and fluid coolers, condenser loops serving water-source heat pumps, and the vertical turbine pumps used where the supply level sits below the pump. Addresses the pump end, the driving motor, the baseplate or frame, the coupling, shaft sealing, vibration isolation, factory and field acceptance testing, and the coordination items that decide whether the installed pump reaches its certified curve.
