Standards6

These are the standards in SynC Standards that cover Outdoor. Each one is a complete, plain-language specification: the scope it applies to, the requirements that govern it, and a structured equipment datasheet listing the values a project has to decide, with the standards each is verified against. All of it is written and maintained by SynC, free to read without an account, and published under CC BY 4.0.

A standard usually carries several topics, so most of the entries below also appear under neighbouring subjects. The topics each one carries are listed on its own page.

Standards

  • Concrete Equipment Pads

Cast-in-place concrete equipment pads and housekeeping pads that receive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment - generators, pad-mounted and dry-type transformers, switchgear and switchboard lineups, chillers, air handlers, condensing units, pumps, compressors, boilers, and similar equipment - whether the pad bears on grade, on an interior finished floor, on a structural slab, or on an exterior platform. Covers the decisions a pad standard actually owns: pad geometry and height, attachment to the supporting concrete, reinforcement method, cast-in and post-installed equipment anchorage, cast-in raceway and grounding provisions, liquid containment, surface finish and grout bed, isolation from adjacent construction, dimensional and anchorage tolerances, and the verification performed before concrete is placed and before equipment is set.

  • Exterior Painting and Coatings

Field-applied decorative and protective coating systems on the exterior architectural substrates of commercial, institutional, and multi-family residential buildings: cast-in-place and precast concrete, concrete masonry, portland cement plaster (stucco), hollow metal doors and frames, miscellaneous metals and metal fabrications, exposed structural steel over its shop primer, galvanized steel including the factory-primed curtains and sections of coiling and sectional doors, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, wood siding, trim, soffits, and doors, fiber-cement siding and trim, and previously painted exterior surfaces. Covers the finish and primer chemistry for each substrate (acrylic latex, elastomeric, high-build acrylic, waterborne acrylic-epoxy, mineral silicate, alkyd, waterborne acrylic-urethane, two-component aliphatic polyurethane, and the opaque, semi-transparent, and clear finishes for wood), surface preparation grades, substrate moisture and cure, application weather limits, sheen, number of coats and film thickness, color matching, volatile organic compound limits, mildew resistance, anti-graffiti coatings, mock-ups, field verification of thickness and adhesion, touch-up, warranty, and extra stock.

  • Exterior and Site Lighting

Exterior and site lighting for commercial, institutional, industrial, and campus projects, including area and roadway luminaires, parking-lot and parking-structure luminaires, floodlights, wall-pack luminaires, bollards, and their supporting poles, foundations, and lighting controls. Covers luminaire photometric performance, light-pollution and dark-sky control, LED drivers and electrical requirements, pole and support structures, foundations and anchorage, photocontrol and scheduling controls, surge protection, and corrosion-resistant finishes for outdoor service.

  • Fencing and Gates

Site perimeter, security, and screening fencing and the gates in it, for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. Covers chain-link fence fabric, framework, rails, tension wire and fittings; ornamental tubular picket fence in galvanized steel, non-galvanized steel, and aluminum; welded wire mesh fence; barbed wire and barbed tape toppings; screening and privacy infill; posts, concrete footings, and alternative post-setting methods; swing, horizontal slide, vertical lift, and vertical pivot gates; pedestrian gates including those on an accessible route; automated vehicular gate operators listed to UL 325; gate construction to ASTM F2200; entrapment protection; gate locking and access-control rough-in; grounding and bonding; and fences that serve as a swimming pool or spa barrier.

  • Low Voltage Panelboards (Superseded)

never for new adoptions — this standard has been merged into Panelboards, which carries its full content under the simple name.

  • Packaged Rooftop Units

Factory-assembled, self-contained packaged units with an integral direct-expansion refrigeration circuit, set on a roof curb and serving a field-installed duct distribution system. Covers cooling-only, gas-fired, electric resistance, hydronic, and reverse-cycle heat pump heating configurations; constant-volume, multi-speed, and variable-air-volume supply fans; air-side economizers, powered relief, minimum outdoor air control, demand-controlled ventilation, and integral exhaust air energy recovery; the cabinet, filtration, drain pan, and roof curb; the refrigerant, its safety group, and the detection and mitigation provisions that go with mildly flammable refrigerants; unit-mounted controls and their interface to the building automation system; and the setting, connection, startup, and balancing of the installed unit.
